The Library, Part 62

Without warning Leonie finds herself cast out into space. Before they can panic, Pleione envelops Leonie, taking them in a container. Leonie floats within the enlightened walls of this new container and for a moment breathes a sigh of relief at having escaped the vacuum of outer space.

A pale translucent fluid fills the container and an overwhelming sense of calm floods Leonie's mind. Drifting into a sleepy happiness, Leonie brushes their hand against the side of the container, hoping to feel Pleione's hand once more.

As Leonie's fingers brush the warm interior of their confines, a realization dawns, but that feeling is quickly quashed by the same overwhelming sense of calm. The calm asserts itself in Leonie's mind and body, causing them to drift into semi consciousness.

Deep in outer space many light years from the Earth, the Heaven of the First Day anchors some distance from a large metallic sphere. The small ship sits, a mote of dust suspended in the gaze of a tractor beam emanating from the external shell of the Central Sun's Panopticon.

The Heaven of the First Day remains suspended, the tractor beam pulls another, smaller vessel down into the sphere. Floating through space, the container holding Leonie drifts peacefully into the open loading bay door awaiting their arrival back under the Central Sun.

Traveling down whitewashed metallic corridors, a team of four servitors flanks the four corners of the cylinder, and behind them a team of technicians dressed in the powder blue uniform of the Central Sun's flotilla. Leonie as contained is guided into a large, open space filled with hundreds.

The familiar humanoid faces and forms of those serving the Central Sun in the campaign on Earth are joined with a plethora of other forms and faces, some very alien to anything seen on Earth. Leonie's procession makes its solemn way through this gathering space, disappearing into another passageway.

The inner surface of the Central Sun's sphere contains a multitude of flat worlds of which the Earth as it is today is only one. Flanking the Earth as it is are more Earths as it once was and as it will be. Beings strange to us on the Earth as it is inhabit these other flat Earths under the Central Sun.

Some of these strange beings are quite old and established with roots on their Earth going back millions of years. The Central Sun's planning maps for the development and sustainment of life on Earth and other inhabited worlds spread out on the inner surface of it's sphere.

One of the members of the planning committee for Earth As It Is joins the procession in a jog, catching up as Leonie's retinue passes into the passageway towards the next step in processing the newest arrival from Earth.

The green skinned, draconic being dressed in powder blue touches the shoulder of one of the crewmembers from the Heaven of the First Day, "Everything is ready for the ceremony. I will preside."

The crewmember alerted by the committee member nods in understanding as the procession continues down bright corridors on its way to its destination deep within the internals of the sphere surrounding the Central Sun.

Following a long walk down a series of passageways, the vessel containing Leonie reaches its destination, a large room filled with mechanical and electrical equipment, the centerpiece being a housing just for the sort of container holding Leonie.

A large pipe descends from the ceiling and when Leonie's vessel is mounted into the machine designed to hold it, the bottom of the pipe connects with the top of the vessel. Nearby, a circular elevator that ascends into the ceiling, and the draconic committee member stands by, waiting.

The four servitors are dismissed from the room by the crewmembers of the Heaven of the First Day, leaving only unarmed and unarmored technicians behind. Within the vessel, Leonie senses that movement has stopped, which jolts them out of the stupor they languished in since encapsulation.

The fluid filled vessel is soon injected with fresh oxygen, causing Leonie to fully wake up, reaching an oxygen high attended by mild euphoria. The top of the vessel is opened remotely by the machine it's mounted within, and contained within the access pipe above is more fluid.

Fluid from the pipe and the vessel intermix, and Leonie looks upwards to see a small, brighter light than the soft lighting from the interior of their vessel and pipe walls above. Outside the vessel the committee member steps into the elevator and ascends, disappearing into the ceiling.

Below in the room, a hydraulic ram pump activates, and the generated water hammer knocks Leonie out of their vessel and up through the pipe, following on the heels of the draconic committee member now ascending towards the inner surface of the Central Sun's sphere.

Topside on the inner surface, a sandstone brick tower stands alone in a desert landscape, wind and sun beaten. The draconic committee member emerges from the elevator in the base of the tower, and they quickly exit and make their way up a round set of stairs mounted to the inner wall of the tower.

Once the committee member reaches the top of the tower they exit onto the open roof of the structure and into the eternal noonday light of the Central Sun burning directly overhead. The committee member turns and looks up towards the shining yellow star and smiles as they wait.
