I'd rather give money to charities that help feed the poor and house the homeless. Especially here in my neighbourhood of Hochelaga. The tent capital of Québec.

Maybe he should live in an overpriced apartment like every working class Canadian that can't afford a property, cut his wage down to 50k/year and see how Mr. Banker fucking survives. Maybe then he's going to find solutions for the housing crisis and the overinflated grocery prices.

Canada should be paying for this. It’s a fucking embarrassment, just do it already.

I'd rather it be publicly funded. "Donations" reeks of corruption like Trump's White House ballroom boondoggle.

24 Sussex is an embarrassment. Just build something dignified for the position and be done with it.

The virtue signalling around not touching is nausiating. It's a house. Just fucking build it.

I don't really see the comparison. Nothing about this screams "vanity project," down to the fact that the work won't be done until long after his time as PM is over. And the fundraising is being handled by an established charity - it's pretty tough to paint a picture of influence-peddling.

Not a vanity project. I just don't like corps or the wealthy "donating" to this. Like we don't have enough collusion already. I like my public assets public.

So taxpayers don't have to foot the whole bill, the Rideau Hall Foundation would run a fundraising campaign to try and cover the costs, the source said.

Annoyingly convoluted, but it should help make it less of a political football.

He should be going around selling cookies to fundraiser for it, corporations should not be saying “I will give you the money you need!”
