Ink52 2026 Prompt 26 - Wind
Happy Summertime Inkivators! (if you’re from the northern hemisphere) Hats off to all of you who used your experience or your imagination to illustrate an idea of FATHER last week. So many of them stopped me in my scrolling tracks and several of them made me cry! Once again, well done to the Inktober community as you create thoughtful, beautiful things for this world.
As we said in our last post, Jake and I were traveling as volunteer chaperones with a youth group last week to upstate New York. We visited lakes and rivers and farms and forests along the way and I found myself in awe the entire time about the beauty in nature. (And I decided I need to live by a lake at some point in my life.) I was mesmerized most by the wind as it pushed waves across the surface of the lake or rippled the fields of grain on gently sloping hills. The most breathtaking example of the might of that wind was actually found in a grove of trees. The branches grew so tall overhead and so thickly together, that the sun was almost entirely blocked from reaching the ground below. That is, until the wind started to blow. As the trees swayed and danced, individual rays of sunshine would break through for just a moment and stream down on the forest floor. The wind blew so strongly that it was as if I was inside the belly of a giant living creature as it breathed and bellowed: the sound indescribable except to say that when people speak about hearing voices in the wind, I can see exactly what they mean. It was utterly silent one moment, and then the rushing wind would fill the space and demand to be noticed as every living thing bowed to its presence.
It was incredible.
Whether you’re in a forest, sea, or desert, try to capture in your illustration the power of WIND in your world (real or imagined!) And afterwards, I hope you get a chance to go outside and feel a breeze on your face.
Happy Inking!
Love-
Alison
