This whole MAHA thing has felt like a broken clock twice a day thing. I'm all for less food dyes and less sugar and the general message of food in America is broken. But why does it have to be some of the worst people imaginable doing it.

Went to Scotland a few years back, every day walked about the same I do here in America, ate way more junk food there (had to try all the things), and still came back weighing less. Americans, like always, have no idea how bad it's gotten here

But why does it have to be some of the worst people imaginable doing it.

Well, why didn't the Democrats do it when they were in office? Why didn't they do it all the times they were in power?

You do remember that Michelle Obama made healthier foods, especially for kids, a high priority and the Republicans ripped her apart for it, right?

You mean like the Democrats ripping this news apart? Each party decides to hate the other party. Which is ironic, because they are both the same party.

Also, how democrats didn't get rid of all the bad stuff IN foods? Like dyes and fake sugars? Why doesn't either party mandate our food to be more like european food when it comes to additives?

I'll tell you way. Money. Both Dems and Repubs are the same sellouts, and have the same quest for money.

I honestly don't see a lot of hate about getting rid of the dyes. The most typical comment I see is the broken clock thing. There's going to be a portion of the population that complains about any government regulation.

I've not seen many Democrats ripping this news apart. A few codgers here and there but does not seem to be a party line thing to me

So M&Ms is having a hard time making a natural replacement for blue.

The challenge has become so significant that company executives reportedly considered launching a simplified version of M&M's featuring only red, orange and yellow candies.

That idea was ultimately scrapped because executives felt the color combination looked too much like a sunset.

They're acting like there has always been blue M&Ms. I remember when they were introduced in the 80s. They replaced light brown with blue.

3

I notice that their "sunset" things doesn't have green, though, which has always been there as far as I know. The article doesn't mention it, but maybe it's a issue too?

I personally don't care what color my M&Ms are.

2

I'm with you. They all taste the same, even tho still believe the different colors taste different. lol

I was wondering why there’s such an outrage over taking processed food die out of candy…

Ah, it’s Dailymail.

It’s just tabloid ragebait.

And to be clear, I’m not endorsing Kennedy or anything, he’s a nut, but that doesn’t mean this is a bad idea. I just trust Dailymail for an angle as far as I can throw them.

Oh, I remember you now.

I’ve done this before.

No, not going down that rabbit hole again. I think you aren’t really interested in potential criticism of Dailymail, and we wouldn't agree anyway. No offense, but respectfully, I’m going somewhere else on the internet for now.

Do processed food companies contribute to Trump and his lackeys (and others) in Congress?

RFK Jr endorsed Trump in 2024, and Trump in turn allowed MAHA to talk a lot and maybe do a few things.

If Americans ate sensibly and lived healthily, it would cost the big corporations much profits.

1

Sure, but the subject of this article is getting rid of the artificial dyes in candy. That's a good thing.

I already eat sensibly and live healthy, but yeah, it'd be great if more people did too.

Kinda crazy how both the left and the right support this initiative (at least the good part) but they still can’t make it happen.

1

That's because they are both the same. No difference between the two parties, so of course they can't get anything done.

M&M's maker Mars is preparing to roll out a new line of artificial dye-free candies in August as food companies face mounting pressure from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to remove synthetic ingredients from popular products.

The move is part of the broader MAHA push to eliminate petroleum-based food dyes from the American food supply, but some loyal candy lovers are already voicing their displeasure.

This is a good thing. I'm sure most of Lemmy will be too blinded by rage to see it though.

I mean, I'm not exactly celebrating, but when corporations collude with fascists, corporations sometimes lose.

2
reddthat.com

Sure, but that has nothing to do with being happy there is a wee bit less artificial food dye in stuff.

So do you spend you whole day thinking about capitalism and fascism? lol Do you ever go outside in the fresh air and just not think of all that and just enjoy life?

Has nothing to do with being happy there is a wee bit less artificial food dye in stuff. But stay mad and you keep fighting that good fight. It helped you out a lot in the last election. Good luck!

Let me blow your mind: there is more to life than just politics. Many people live happily without caring about politics at all or making it there entire persona. Lemmy is not anywhere close to how the real world thinks.

I'm at work and my only job is to show up so my boss can say he has +1 member on his staff; otherwise, this position would have been eliminated two years ago.

But it's time to do my guitar set for the squirrels outside. It is a beatiful day, thanks for the reminder.

Glad you are gonna go out and enjoy life. I make it a point to go outside and just take in the scene and air every single day, regardless of weather. I'm surrounded by mountains and fresh air and wildlife (Idaho). It's beautiful.

Good on ya, mate. Enjoy the real world. Def more to life than work and lemmy.

My dog forces me outside every day. Refuses to poop unless he's more than a mile away from the house. I swear sometimes he knows exactly the spot he's got planned out before he leaves. Maybe he's planning it while I'm at work.
