All this is going to do is radicalize people.
Some will actually just start doing real terrorism because if they're going to get the time... might as well do the crime.
I'm sure that's part of the purpose. They don't have any actual terrorism to prosecute, and no one is doing enough against this obvious bullshit, but if they can push some fringe people to actually get to that point, they'll have something to actually point to justify it all.

Well if protesting gets me 30, and I probably won't live another 30 years with my health problems, they've just told me don't bother being peaceful because the end result is the same either way
He wasn't protesting (the guy that got 30 years) his crime was moving a box of anti fascist zines and having communicated with the group.
