Barney was a flash in the pan 25 years ago... Referencing him like it's the 2000s is kind of nuts.

People under 30 aren't likely to have seen him on TV. I doubt Barney made it to digital TV.

So it's a bit like someone from the 70s referencing some weird monstrosity from that generation. Millennials are going to have to accept their age eventually.

... I'm an elder millennial hoping we don't become weird hangers on like previous generations have to their cultural landmarks. We've done enough.

My brother in Christ. You are in Ten Forward. The bar on the USS Enterprise in Star Trek Next Generation, which ran from 1987 to 1994, two years before Barney started.

I just asked my 22 year old niece if she knows who Barney is and she said “The annoying dinosaur? Of course.” She was born in 2004, so she was six when the show ended. Original episodes ran for 15 years, twice as long as Bluey has been on, not really a flash in the pan.

I think it’s ok to make references that children don’t get and I think it’s ok for adults to acknowledge their lifetime.

Also, my first thought was Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson, since.. you know.. this is a sci-fi community.

Barney was a flash in the pan 25 years ago…

The first video was released in '88, and the show ran for 268 episodes from 1992-2010.

I never watched the show, but we always used to make fun of it in grade school.
