oh yeah. when i started dating my wife and my cat met her, first thing cat did was try to make me jealous by giving lots of loves to my wife. my current cat, she has a similar mentality. whoever she wants to pet her, she will sit on the other person's lap and then stare until they move (if we're not a;ready on the couch) so she gets Double Pets.
my cats have only disliked a few people, and well they had damn good reason.
That's a green flag, but weird threatening people passive aggressively through your pet is no bueno.
Imagine saying this to your date through your sibling or friend. Gross. It's giving creepy inappropriate dad-counting-shotgun-shells to the new boyfriend.
I dont see where you're getting threatening from. The quote is just "I'm so glad you like her" and then the exchange explaining he was talking to his dog. And as someone who has a very good friend whose dog hates me its not always a guarantee that your dog will get along with someone and it can make hanging out difficult.
I've had people literally do this shit to me or around me to others. If you haven't seen this, you may not be able to know what I'm talking about and just see things at surface level with none of the subtext. It's just gross behavior.
Yes, on the surface, it's good when animals are well behaved and trained, and unfortunate when animals don't like somebody. But, that's, again, not what I'm referring to here.
Okay, but this is just a meme in a meme community, in that context it's safe to assume it's presented at face value and as a comedic anecdote.
The behavior you're describing is gross. But, you are interpreting subtext based on your personal experiences when there is absolutely nothing in the OP that is threatening at face value. It is just a meme, take it how you want to, but it seems a little hyperbolic to jump to this being some kind of implied threat over a description of a 4 sentence conversation.
I can't tell if you understand me or not. You say you do, but then you say I'm imagining it and I'm being hyperbolic. I think I'm gonna back away from this conversation because it's starting to feel gross, too.
My cat loves everyone I’d be very alarmed if she didn’t like my SO

Dogs can always tell
Ahem. I was speaking to Sparky, hon. But we're glad you like her too.

folks that talk to/treat their pets like they’re people get a huge green flag from me personally.
