Finally had my eyes checked after nearly 8 years
I live in a small town, one eye doctor. There is a year to 18 month wait for an appointment. I kept putting it off saying I would make an appointment in the city. I finally did it. My prescription has vastly changed.
I went into to Costco to see about getting lenses. My last pair of glasses I brought the frames, and Costco make lenses for them. However when I went Wednesday I encountered the nastiest, rudest Costco employee I have ever met in 24 years of being a member.
I left empty handed. I looked online, with new frames, it is going to be about $400 (and I need to get readers too) for polarizing lenses. I have never bought lenses online, either I get them from my eye doctor, or Costco. Really rather nervous about ordering them, but not sure I want to go back to Costco.
ETA: I am in the states
I've had good luck with https://www.muukal.com/, and they often have a 3 pairs for $119USD sale; you do have to pay extra for coatings. The last time I bought there, my total for 3 pairs was $156USD, and I had the glasses in under a month.
All the frames I liked are out of stock, but my wife is having good luck with stuff. Thanks for the suggestion.
Try zennioptical.com They’re a lot cheaper than most other places and worth the money.
I haven’t bought any from them for a while but a few years ago frames that would have been 400 for me only cost 80.
Thanks, ordered a pair from there.
I've been getting new glasses from https://www.zennioptical.com/ for years. Ridiculously cheap in comparison and they have a huge selection.
Thanks, ordered a pair from there.
If you're Canadian, I've had good experience with glasses from Clearly. Including progressives, transitions, sunglasses, and fairly high index glasses between family members.
Not Canadian, but thanks for a suggestion.
Zenni.
Thanks, ordered a pair from there.
Many years ago I went to get my eyes rechecked and they quoted me around $300 for the glasses. I found a place online and got 3 pairs for just over $100 and that was years ago.
I have had laser eye surgery since then and don't need them anymore but I would say cut out the middle men and buy online.
Also get your prescription from the optometrist and make sure they give you your Pupil Distance. It is important for making sure that the proper focal point is centered. Some optometrists will skip putting that measurement on so you will get glasses from them. Though iit can be measured with help from a friend and a ruler.
As an aside I suggest you put in a complaint to the Costco, they usually take pride in having great employees that stick around long term so they would probably want to move employees along if they give bad service.
Forgot to add the site I used it was goggles4u.com
I tried, but the woman i delt with in Costco was so rude i left.
My PD is on my prescription.
Just call the Costco or do an online complaint. The person might have been having a bad day and it was a one time thing or somehow they aren't getting disciplined for bad service.
I do plan on complaining, but it is not a one time thing. When I was telling my wife about the interaction she said she had a really bad experience at the Costco vision center, from the same woman.
I need to get back to the city to see her name though.
