psychedelics vs weed
Regular weed user here.
If I'd have to describe my average weed experience in a few words, it would be fun, warm, soft, calm, soft fuzzy blanket
If I'd have to describe my few psychedelic experiences similarly (mushrooms only), it would be cold, hard, sharp, alone and from one horror trip (I was given way too much and after hours of nothing, smoked a little weed which I regretted 10 seconds later) chaos, mayhem, extreme loneliness from being the only person alive in the universe
Wife has similar experiences and after our last fucked up trip vowed to never again try it.
Are these experiences typical? I see so many positive experiences but I hated the cold and lonely feeling I had with it every time. How could I have a pleasant trip with shrooms, or say, lsd even?
I had a life transforming experience on psychedelics. I tried them only a few times.
One of the craziest trips was when I took hawain baby woodrose seeds. I entered a deep trance-like feverish state and I relived my whole life. It was insanely vivid. I could smell, taste, experience complex emotions, and see everything in color.
I was highly depressed then unable to process my childhood trauma. What I realised at the end was that I was concentrating on the bad parts. There were many good parts that I forgot about or gave little importance to.
It kickstarted my recovery.
I don't do psychedelics anymore. I switched to meditation which gives me a steady and long term supply of happiness.
I smoked weed quite a bit for a few years. It is only to feel good and kill time for a few hours. It wasn't helpful.
Is it typical? I don't know for people generally but definitely not at all for me.
I have only done shrooms a few times but LSD 100+ times so most of my experience is with that.
As someone else replied, set and setting. It seems silly having no experience with the substances but where you come up will colour the entire trip from then on so if you are more fragile, like you seem to be, then you need to make sure you get this right to set up your trip going forward.
For me if I am alone at home then that will definitely make the trip more introspective and it will have more moments of self analysis.
If I am in public then it makes for a lot more sociable high and I am more likely to engage with other people and as an introvert who generally avoids people that is quite a nice change of pace for me.
Either way though I never feel cold and lonely and those things you were describing.
Smoking a bit of weed can take the edge off of coming up but be cautious of smoking during your trip. For me personally it is the best combination and I will rip bongs throughout a trip because I love the spacey disconnected high you get from mixing the two but I have also seen people who absolutely could not handle the combination. They were also regular smokers and people I thought would be OK but I have seen more than one friend crying curled up in a corner after smoking weed during a trip and it took it in a less favourable direction. So just be cautious with mixing the two.
I'd probably advise to leave the weed alone during the heights of the trip and maybe have a bit a lot later to smooth into the come down until you have tripped a few times and know yourself and what to expect from those drugs a bit better.
I'm pretty sure I'm an outlier as when I was super into acid around ten years ago I used to try and take it in the weirdest times and places I could think of just to kind of see how it went and for me it always made any activity infinitely more enjoyable. I never had a bad trip, but I also realise that a lot of people aren't like this at all and would not have had such a good time.
If you are gonna go for it again I think you should really concentrate on the set and setting part. Set yourself up in a good place and be in a good place mentally going into it. As the other poster suggested have some shit around you that you enjoy and is comforting to you but also don't plan specific things and try and follow a schedule, just let it do its thing and ride it out.
It may just be that it isnt for you too and that is alright. Get some MDMA instead and have a cuddle puddle with your wife xP
Set and setting. Y'all are probably stressed by something around you. Smoking weed when you take the shrooms mellows the onset and makes it much less jarring to kick in. Take a tiny amount first, like a half a gram of shrooms. I recommend being in nature when you do it, I have found for most tech exposure and fear of "being caught" are the biggest spook factors when it comes to a bad trip. Have a bag of personal things that comfort you and a designated "alone" place so you have a place to meditate and collect yourself if you need it. Often shrooms and LSD encourage self reflection, if you dont reflect on yourself and try to force having a good time it can turn bad too. Follow where your mind takes you, do what you're gravitating towards instead of preset plans and you'll have a better time too. Also, until you are able to take shrooms comfortably without worrying about a "bad trip," I recommend not doing LSD. I'd describe shrooms as an hour to kick in an hour to the peak, then a gentle ride down (like a steep hill with a gentle slope down the other side), but LSD is 15min to kick, 4 hours of increasing intensity and 4 hours decreasing intensity (like a steep mountain up and a steep mountain down).
Only typical during a bad trip for me.
Maybe try a different form of shrooms? For me if i just eat shrooms whole i feel a bit upset in the stomach and that can affect my trip. Instead i make a shroom tea and that gets out some of the stomach ruining shit and my trips are great.
Also don’t trip when you’re in a bad head space. If you think you’re going to have a bad trip you probably will.
What you're describing for weed, is what I feel about mushrooms
I am also a frequent, regular weed smoker. I have done mushrooms twice in my life, and LSD once.
Tge LSD was slipped to me unknowingly and kinda freaked me out when my vision started doubling and everything seemed like it was shifting around like sand dunes or water reflections. I would be willing to try it again knowing what I am taking, if I had the chance as frame of mind really played a role in how the whole experience felt.
The shrooms, both times, just made me feel exactly like being drunk, complete with the queasy sickness and "spins" as it peaked. I don't have any desire to try them again, as I don't even drink alcohol because I don't like that feeling.
