The term underage women/girls when describing the sexual assault of children and adolescents is pedophile language meant to groom the public. Nobody ever says underage boy or man. Thoughts?

It just bothers me when the media and government uses this language. Posted my garden because it made me post a photo for some reason.

Black/minority boys are often promoted by the media to men when suspected of crimes.

Ok so it seems that this sort of term is only used for nefarious purposes

16 year old girl who has sex with teacher/coach/mentor/creep = Young lady making choices. Aware of what she's doing. Using her "wiles".

16 year old who wants birth control = Child in need of protection from being sexualized. Victim of liberal treachery.

New: 18 year old looking for trans medical care = Not adult enough to get that type of care. Can be charged as adult for helping younger friend access the same care.

Ever tried getting tubes tied before you've procreated?

A whole lot of men have to decide that you're serious and will never want children before you can get the procedure.

A hypothetical man that didn't exist (spoiler alert: and never would exist) had more weight in the decision for a tubal ligation than I did.

I WAS FUCKING THIRTY YEARS OLD!

Yes, I had my tubes removed in my early 30s with no pregnancy history. Also no birth control history. However, the surgeon who approved me without issue hugged me and kissed my cheek against my will after offering to "help me" up from the exam table after my post op check, and told me to send my girlfriends to him.

"Underage girls" is correct (if redundant). "Underage women" is an oxymoron intended to protect child molesters.

I will counter slightly - they do use terms like "underage men" or "underage fighters" in media when speaking about the some of the atrocities in the ME. There are also plenty of women pedophiles who get similar headline treatment "caught having sex with student" kind of statements. It's a similar intent though - it's meant to groom the public.

Language and word choices carry a lot heavier weight than most people realize.

Oh clearly yes. But the language when describing the crime is similar to what the media uses for male pedophiles.

It doesn’t but when 80%of women are survivors of various levels of SA and harassment it does seem like the problem is really lopsided to one side primarily being victims of this reality and the social systems and power structures that keep it continuing should be confronted.

4

It’s lopsided, but let’s not act like boys and men can’t be victims as well. There were plenty of boys abused through Epstein’s circles for example.

Confronting the social systems and power structures should be done to help all victims.

I was simply pointing out the language that media often uses to protect abusers.

5

I agree that there is a much higher percentage of men that are predators than women, without a doubt. However I think for victims there is much less of a gap but men/boys are still expected to keep silent. I don't know if they reach the 1 in 3 stats for assaults that females are subject to, however I wouldn't be surpised to find it was 1 in 5 IRL (I think reported is 1 in 6). It seems many male pedophiles are equal gender abusers.

Underage is the dominant term. Girl, boy, evil. Man, woman, does not apply here.

Consent is critical, but you have to be old enough, and in a free enough situation, to give it.

1

Sorry Mal, this is a women's only space. We do not consent to you commenting here. Please put Kaylee on, we'd love to hear from her.

2

Fair cop, didn't pay adequate attention. Should I delete?

ETA: Wouldn't speak for Kaylee, She's her own person, whole and complete.

4

Um, my thoughts are this incorrect, since boy and girl literally mean Underage. I agree underage man and woman is absurd and used to normalize. Is English not your first language? You don't know what Boy and Girl mean? They mean Children.

This is basic English, and you're arguing about it--twice now. What other conclusion should I be drawing here?

You reached the end
