Elden Ring has a massive world, so much to see and discover! There are 165 Boss battles, 207 if you count the DLC. So much to do!

Or you could just fight these 9* required Boss battles and two Shardbearers of your choice for a minimal number of 11 Boss battles.

Some people want to explore, and some people just want to follow Grace and bash their head against a wall ;)

*Edit: Image is slightly misleading. Radabeast is only one fight and you have to fight the Draconic Tree Sentinel for minimal Boss battles, but you can skip DTS and fight the Gargoyles and Fia's champions instead. So only these 8 Boss battles are guaranteed in each playthrough.

165 is a bit of a misnomer though, there is a lot of repetition. I don't think we should be counting the third creepy cat statue but this time it does lightning instead of fire as a whole new boss

That's why I always wrote "Boss battle". You can count quite differently if you just count Bosses with no repeats or you could inflate the number even more if count Duo Bosses as multiple Bosses -- the inflated number comes to, I think, 238.

Fun fact there are "different" 5 creepy cat statue (Erdtree Burial Watchdogs) Boss fights in Elden Ring.

One of these 11 is not like the others

Gideon, in my books, does not really count as a boss. He's got a cool variety of moves, but he's such a pushover. Maybe it's different on RL1?

Yeah, Gideon is a pushover NPC Boss. But he does have a boss health bar! All the Volcano Manor invaders are jealous of him.

And no, even at RL1 he isn't difficult. You can nuke him during his speech, so that he dies before he can do anything. But even if you wing it, like I did on my first RL1, he isn't that hard. I juggled him with Giant Hunt, or you could stun him to death with Thrusting Sword pokes (he doesn't have enough poise).

On my NG+3 to NG+7 runs, I tried to one- or two-shoot him, pop a Golden Horn Tender, and see if I could run to Godfrey and defeat him in time. I always stood behind him, when he gave his speech and then electrocuted him with Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike; the douchebag got what he deserved.

I'm imagining the character of Shadow of the Colossus thinking that Shadow of the Erdtree must be a sequel and playing it. The magic sword is pointing that way, we go that way!
