It would even be fine if he was ill, if he was openly communicating with his constituents, arranged for a colleague to vote for him, and had his staff handle routine affairs. It's definitely not ideal, but it's been done before and it can work. But this whole thing about just abandoning your job for months, not talking with anyone, and no one knows where you are or what's going on - no. I don't care who you are or what your family's done, you're gone.
