Surely hardware manufacturers could be embedding AV2 starting this year? The spec has just been officially finalized, but it’s been pretty close for years; enough to figure out the hardware design for it.
I’d really like to see Apple, for instance, switch from HEVC to AV2. Less patent encumbrance, better algorithms, and they’re a member of both orgs.

Even the reference software decoder is at v0.0.1 "very early preview release" so probably not
AV1 didn't even get major traction yet. Is AV2 really needed so early?
