When Rebecca Figueroa gave birth to her fourth child, her right leg was chained to the hospital bed so tightly that the shackle left cut marks on her skin, she said.

They will probably just use to opportunity to run away during while.... delivering a baby? why the fuck would they need handcuffs?!
The shit thing is they do it for Psychological reasons not practical. Most people don't need it and don't resist bit the Prosecutors use it to influence the jury as seeing someone in cuffs makes them seem more dangerous.

Limits should be an expectation not a law.
why so? i'm sure we have an expectation that people close to birthing shouldn't be shackled.
