Did you get a chance to watch the gameplay that was released yesterday? It's incredibly exciting.

I remember when it was first being talked about when there was just 1 person working on it.

I'm wary of calling it a Sims rival because the Sims will always be around with a much larger fanbase. And that's ok. Having more life simulators like this is always a good thing imo.

If someone made a Sims clone that was all the good stuff from Sims 3 (open world, the customization system, and more) where most of the game came in a $30 single purchase and not a bare bones base game with a thousand DLC purchases, I could see it surprassng EA's The Sims.

At the same time, I can see that a lot of devs might use such a game to create their own system of nickel and diming players for pieces of clothing and furniture as the primary goal in the industry rn seems to be "let's try to print money."

I futzed around with the character creator and build mode. The former is promising but lacks a lot of options (forgivable pre-1.0), and the latter is satisfying and robust already. More options would be nice but I'm about halfway through making a trashy cinderblock home and i'm doing stuff that I'd need cheats for in the sims by default, like shrinking a cow statue and shifting up on top of a locker that doesn't expect decor on top of it.
