Stone Spider
Great Lakes region, USA. May 2026.
A species of wolf spider that's common here. These little arachnids are quick crawlers. They hang out on rocks and ambush their prey, closing quite the distance swiftly, webs not required. I didn't stick around to find any feeding, another time.
Cute!
Sounds like something an overzealous D&D DM would invent. Bite DC15 or turn to stone!
So "Stone spider" is Pardosa lapidicina, I'll take your word for it. Wolf spiders are hard already and that one seems poorly documented .. it's not even in my NA spider field guide, sorry.
