Airlines make the most money off of frequent travelers and credit cards. Back when I was traveling all the time, I hit the top level of on their travel program, 99% of the time I was in first class.

Expanding the first class means that they are trying to service this group of people. This is where they make their money. It is dominated by business travelers who fly every week or so. They often spend $30,000 or more every year on flights. I
