-28c

The town I recently moved to hits -30 and for anyone who hasn't experienced temps like that it's unbelievably cold. Moisture is squeezed out of the air so it's dry as fuck, your breath freezes to your face and clothes, frostbite can happen in just a few minutes, normal rubber gets brittle and can crack

With decent winter gear, little wind, actively moving, and only being outside a couple hours at a time, I still managed to get frostbite this winter. Sitting around waiting for the right time on the top of a windy mountain sounds nightmarish

That's not so bad. We regularly get those temperatures in Canada.

A few years ago it hit -50. That's when it starts to hurt. Your spit turns to ice before it hits the ground.

I remember feeling -48 about 20 years ago. The fact that you can feel your tears rapidly evaporaring and that steam rises through your gloves or mits was not something people who grew up in the praries thought was important information to give me about their winters.
