Putter recommendations.

Today I spent some time at a basket really trying to hone in on a putter.

I’ve been using a pixel for a while now, but only because I liked the art, not because I legit preferred the disc.

I went to the basket and took 6 putters. I pulled out 2 and compared them:

  • hand feel: I just held them and did a few practise throws (not letting go of disc)
  • 4m/13ft putts: I threw 5 short range putts with each, focussing on how they felt in the hand.
  • 8m/25ft putts: I threw 5 long (for me) range putts, focussing on how the disc flew relative to how i expected it to.
  • 6m/20ft putts: I threw 5 putts whilst imagining high stakes, birdies on hole 18 for a PB for focussed on how confident i felt with each.

Round 1 was my Simon Line Pixel vs an R2 eclipse nomad. Both were decent and honestly hard to separate, maybe some familiarity bias pushed Pixel to the win. Round 2: Wizard (super glow) vs Aviar (dx) I really liked the Wizard. It’s the first time I’ve consciously thought about bead vs no bead and I really liked the bead for resting my index finger on. Easy W for the Wizard. Round 3: Sparta vs Uplay Zeal. Should be a no brainer here. The Zeal in the Inspire Firm plastic feels trash, very slick very firm, not at all what I want.

I then repeated the process with the Pixel, Wizard and Sparta.

I really struggled to separate them, but I think the bead on the wizard is what I really liked best. The feel of the Sparta was the best of the 3 though.

I think I want to go buy a couple of wizards and make that my new putter, but I figured I’d come to the hive mind and seek recommendations.

Based on the above, should I go to the wizard? Is there another beaded putter I should consider? What plastic should I be looking at given my preference for the Sparta’s grippier feel?

Putters are almost always a "What feels best to you?" thing in my opinion.

I putted with SS-4S wizards for about three years then switched to a beadless putter about 2 years ago. When I switched putters I stopped resting my index finger on the bead and now use more of a fan grip when putting. I seem to generate more power with this grip now.
