I really appreciate the effort you put in this. Looks really good.

@[email protected] I am having trouble editing this post further. When I edit and click save, it just keeps spinning and never finishes.

Any tips on how to get around it?

Could you check how many characters it is? There seems to be an issue with long posts. I will create an issue for the devs if there isn’t one already

6
Ruudreply
lemmy.world

Hmm that sux. Don't see if they did something to fix that. I could try raising that to 50000 by editing the file but that would be un-done after every upgrade...

4

Well to me it looks like they resolved it, and increased the limit to 50k, so I guess in the next release you will update the server? For now, I can be more conservative with the characters.

2

Not confirmed, but it seems like it starts failing at 9810 characters

3
lemmy.world

Been using Memmy on iOS for about 36 hours. Great so far and a dev team that doesn’t sleep apparently lol. Updates daily by the looks of it.

15

Updates several times daily, actually. And they've got three devs across different time zones which is why there's constant development on the app

7
lemmy.world

Thunder is quite nice! It has a minimalist design and very smooth animations. The swipe feature to upvote/downvote comments is very neat.

12
lemmy.ml

Wefwef really positively surprises me. It clearly draw heavy inspiration from Apollo but in a good way

11
NXLreply
lemmy.ml

I hope it comes to the app stores soon i like it a lot

2

It’s pwa app. I have a doubt about it’s coming to store as a native app.

1

Jerboa user checking in. It's still a little rough here and there, but overall quite usable. Defintly a promising app.

11
lemmy.world

You can add Liftoff! under macOS too. We’ve not done any work specifically to make it a first class Mac app, but it installs and runs perfectly using TestFlight for Mac.

Edit: sorry just realised that this is the original post reformatted. Looks really good, great work!

10

Also it works pretty well for an alpha release and has already a ton of customization settings.

1
programming.dev

Thanks for the list. I don't want to go through the effort of installing from github so am just trying the web apps for now.

Wefwef is really good so far!

7
rist097reply
lemmy.world

Its really not that much effort. You dont need to compile from source. Just go to releases and download the latest apk

4

Now you can directly run it in Chrome or Firefox no need to download anything

2
lemm.ee

Can we get F-Droid links for those that have them?

7
rist097reply
lemmy.world

Good idea, I added Fdroid link for those I could find

5
lemmy.world

Am I the only psycho who has all the Android apps installed?

7
ඞmirreply
lemmy.ml

I'm also testing 6 different apps at once lol

4

So far Jerboa, although I downgrade it to .34 because lemmy.wold still hasn't updated the instance and it was misbehaving.... random crashes for example.

I think it is the most functional app although I miss swipe actions, but Monet support inside the app and with the icon already available won a spot in my home screen lol.

5

Not OP but Summit is so much smoother than all the others

2

I've used Connect, Boost, Jerboa, and Sync so far. Boost is the most customizable, but I'm stuck on Sync because it's the only one I've found that has a feature none of the others do: you can go to individual instances! All the other apps are limited to everything, your home instance, or individual communities. It seems like such an obvious feature, I'm surprised more apps don't have it.

1
NXL
lemmy.ml

Have you considered making a push request to the lemmy github to include this on the join lemmy app section?

6
lemmy.world

Maybe good to mention that Jerboa currently only works on 0.18 servers, which aren't too many yet.

6
rist097reply
lemmy.world

Is it the v0.0.35 version? Because I am using v0.0.34 and it still works. I will note that in the post

1
wolsreply

Yes, exactly. 0.0.35 only works with instances that are on lemmy 0.18.

I believe the reverse is also the case: 0.0.34 and below don't work with instances that are on 0.18.

I also have not checked this, but I would not be surprised if other apps have trouble with 0.18 instances currently.

3
lemmy.world

Can you add me too. Desktop/mobile/Android/Ios all in one.

https://createlab.io/ https://github.com/ando818/lemmy-ui-svelte

Though I see now mine looks just like wefwefs and they're way ahead of me so I lost quite a bit of motivation to do this.

Very important note: We need Oauth. Putting your username/password onto an external app is not safe. A malicious dev can log all of it.

6

Added, thank you.

You can feel free to create a post promoting your website.

If you are doing similar things, maybe it makes sense to merge forces and collaborate. It should get you faster to the goal, so no need to lose motivation ;) Let me know if you decide to merge with wefwef.

3

I like liftoff a lot if anything, also they have amold dark mode!

Only thing I don't like is it posting the entire image.

5
lemmy.world

Lemmynade not available on iOS yet. Looking forward to ares.

5
lemmy.world

Thanks for the list! I read they're also making Artemis available for Android.

5

You're welcome! And thanks again for the list. It's really nice to have everything in one place.

1
lemmy.world

Great list. I’m amazed how excited everyone is about Lemmy. This really is going to happen.

Fyi Limbo and Lemmynade have combined forces, and are now Liftoff!

5

I am loving Thunder right now. You have to run it through TestFlight. It is absolutely kickass on an iPad in split screen.

4
lemmy.world

Great list. I'm favouring Connect right now, closely followed by LiftOff. Jerboa is now having problems logging me into instances and Lemmur looks good but won't connect at all for me :(. Wefwef & Summit look like they need more work for me

4
keeeenerreply
lemmy.world

jerboa won't work until other instances update to the latest version, I wasn't the biggest fan of it over connect or liftoff.... but I love finding all these new apps to play with :)

3
theNoobreply
lemmy.world

I like Liftoff a lot. I hadn't twigged that about Lemmur, there's too many apps for me to keep track :)

3

The Liftoff app has changed its TestFlight account - I couldn't get the TestFlight links currently posted to work, so I assume they aren't current. If you click their community's link, it'll say where they are now. I would link it.. but I haven't figured out how to do that yet lol.

4

Great update from Thunder a few minutes ago. Has an additional tab for inbox, the app is getting really solid.

4

Playing with Jerboa and Lemmynade here. Not to sure which I prefer yet but leaning towards Lemmynade but will see what Jerboa brings once Lemmy.world is updated to 18.1.

4

lemmy.world

This post needs an update. Many of these apps are no longer functioning and some changed names/links..

3
lemmy.world

Can someone tell me which one is the most similar to RiF on android. I am new here and just signed up recently

3
rist097reply
lemmy.world

I don't know to answer your question. But you should make a post with that question you will have higher chance someone sees your question. This thread should be only for suggesting new apps to add to the list

1

Lemmynade has a new icon:

Also, the current focus is the desktop site and touch-friendly web app. iOS and Android releases are a lower priority for now so it might best to remove it from those lists until announced

3

Happy Halloween! I made a (spooky) web app for Lemmy at called Phantom.

Check it out at lemmyphantom.com!

This is currently a reader app (no login functionality) but I would love any feedback from the community!

Some features include:

  • Dark/Light Mode
  • Various formats (card, narrow, masonry)
  • Themes
  • Accessibility (dyslexia font)
  • NSFW controls (blur, filter)
  • Privacy focused (not even Google Analytics)

Edit: Many more features now added since writing this comment (including authentication)

3

Thanks for the list. I've been using a mixture of both Jerboa and Connect so far. They're both good but as is there's still a lot of room for improvement to bring them the extra mile. Also excited for when Sync releases as well for Lemmy. It was my app of choice for Reddit and I hope that it will become my app of choice for Lemmy as well once it releases.

3

Thanks, I'll put a link to this post in the Getting Started post.

3
sopuli.xyz

Thunder is now on the Play Store! Might wanna edit the post to link it.

3

Just tried Beyond, and have currently switched to Infinity from Liftoff. Beyond is in a very early stage, Infinity seems pretty good, especially considering it is also very new. Liftoff is very stable, but I'm not sure if I would stick with it, now that Infinity is a thing.

Jerboa. At least it opens for a second on my Pixel then crashes.

3
rist097reply
lemmy.world

Really? For me it works fine. Did you download it from Github or google play store?

Please note that I made this community only to keep track of news about new clients and updates. For an issue about Jerboa its probably better to go to Jerboa community or github issues

9

Play store, so it's probably an issue with that version? The mobile site is still plenty usable, thanks for the heads up about the Jerboa community.

2
Coelacanthreply
lemmy.world

Jerboa from the Android App Store instantly crashes for me as well.

2
kbin.social

By the way, alpha testing for Artemis has begun. Granted it's only for kbin at the moment, but there's only a limited amount of testers. Lemmy will be available when open beta rolls around!

3

Do you mind making a post or repost on the sub with more details on how to sign up for beta testing? It will be more visible that way.

2
lemmy.world

Looks like Lemmynade is a web app rather than an Android client?

3

Yep, that’s correct, it’s a touch-friendly installable web app. It’s still in the plans to have app store releases, but we’re quite some time out from that and it’s not a priority at the moment.

2

Don’t know if they would ever see this but if the developer for the Calipso app for Squabblr wanted to port or build an app for Lemmy I would be in full support! The app was what made Squabblr worth interacting with for me. Once I saw he deleted his account and removed the app from the App Store I deleted my Squabblr account too.

3
lemmy.ml

Sync For Lemmy on Android is in "pre-registration", i.e. it will automatically install when it becomes available.

I do a search on github from time to time and add projects that have a build ready. Great work!

2
lemmy.world

Liftoff doesn't seem to be a macOS client, though?

2
rist097reply
lemmy.world

Well there are instructions for IOS on github. But I know nothing about IOS to verify

2
Obrareply
lemmy.world

Not sure what you mean, I’m talking about macOS, not iOS.

1

True, I mistaken the Iphone OS. Yes there is nothing for MacOS, I will remove it, thanks.

2

This list could maybe do with a bit of an update? A few additions, Raccoon & Muffed for android, & some dropping off, abandoned, or no longer being developed/maintained: Arctius (Fennec), Artemis, Beyond, Liftoff, Lemming, Lemmotif, Slide, to name a few, & some that never saw the light of day..🤷🏻‍♂️

2

Slide, yay.

It's awesome that so many are coming to Lemmy. I'll be keeping an eye on these apps. Many things to try out. :)

1

Does anyone know of an app that checks the following requirements?

  1. Has an equivalent Reddit app (I think Boost and Sync are examples of this?)

  2. It can remember where you left off even if you close the app. Suppose I'm browsing the top of all time of a particular sub and I want to keep going later just where I left it. Is this something possible with apps or only with mobile browsers?

  3. Doesn't have issues playing both videos and gifs.

1

Currently Memmy and Mlem are both the best, Mlem looks better but Memmy already has almost 100% of the features

1

The Liftoff app has changed its TestFlight account - I couldn't get the TestFlight links currently posted to work, so I assume they aren't current. If you click their community's link, it'll say where they are now. I would link it.. but I haven't figured out how to do that yet lol.

Why the obsession with apps? Apps are pushed by companies because they can show ads regardless of installed ad blockers and because they can harvest more data about you to sell to advertisers. Because of this they've been progressively making the mobile web worse for years now to force people onto their apps.

But it doesn't need to be that way. Mobile websites can operate just as effectively as mobile apps and I think this website is a great example of that. I for one would love not having to click "no, I don't want to open your website in your stupid app, that's why I opened it in my browser" every time I visit a website on my phone. It used to be that way. I'd love to see it that way again, and this site is a step in the right direction.

-10

Gesture and touch controls in general are much smoother in app compared to web browser.

16
Noedelreply
lemmy.world

The website is literally unusable on 0.17. It's loading sooo many random posts and everything keeps moving around.

I wouldn't be here without apps. Can't wait for 0.18.1 though.

8
Anticorpreply
lemmy.world

Huh, I haven't had that experience yet. Which app do you like the best so far, just in case it starts doing that to me?

0

That one isn't available through an official play store package though. Right?

0
rist097reply
lemmy.world

While I do agree with you that every website today expects you to have an app. I will certainly in most cases prefer a website instead of app for websites that I don't use very often.

For websites that I do use often, I prefer to use a polished app that I find the most comfortable to use. Then there is accessibility problem for people who cannot use the web version, which can be solved by apps.

4

That's understandable. I prefer to install as few apps as possible, so seeing a functional and modern mobile website here was a breath of fresh air.
