The Daily Check-in for Saturday May 2nd - Just For Today, We are NOT Drinking!

Good morning, fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT, 😁!

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same. Maybe you’re new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!

Not an alcoholic myself, but after 3 of my friends received this diagnosis, I stopped.

In 4 years I got half a bottle of wine and about 5 liters of beer and cider.

Thank you for sharing. I am struggling with interacting with one particular friend who seems to expect me to just continue to be his “drinking buddy”. Even after being quite clear with him about my desire to stop drinking. Still working the future interactions for that relationship out in my head.

I am uncertain of whether you are suggesting you made your own choice in order to support your friends or in recognition that someday it may potentially become a slippery slope for yourself or some other reason.

Regardless, your decision is at least one peg in a healthier lifestyle for yourself and I suspect it makes you an easier friend to spend time with for your friends who I presume are trying to stay away from alcohol.

So… good on ya! 🙂

No, it was a decision motivated by events happening with me and in the world. I felt like I could easily start coping with the help of alcohol.

Also, the struggle to find a new mode of interaction is real. Every non-alcohol first interaction with people I used to drink with is hella awkward, even if we both want to be a bit closer.
