At first, I didn't really understand how Lemmy, Kbin, PieFed, etc. worked so I made at least 5-6 different accounts across multiple Lemmy instances that happened to mostly be federated with each other (though Beehaw seems to have fallen to the wayside, possibly due to its odd refusal to update its Lemmy version, from what I can tell). Edit to clarify: each account is a unique username on a different instance; no two are alike in any way (other than, apparently, probably my linguistic style that AI can purportedly analyze to trace back to me 🤖).

Once I finally understood how this stuff works (it's definitely more complex than Reddit and I still don't know how to search for posts within a community; it doesn't even seem possible in multiple mobile apps), I realized that they were sort of needless, yet also helpful for anonymity and diversification in case different instances go down.

So now I rotate through them regularly to make it maybe, possibly a bit harder to track me, while also perhaps giving the illusion of Lemmy having more people than it actually has to make it seem more populated and try to usher growth of its user base. (I haven't actually straight-up lied and commented on my own posts with other accounts, though, haha; it's just too much work to do that and that would somewhat defeat the interest in anonymity.)

By the way, is there no 2FA on here? Having none makes me think that we should all have multiple, non-throwaway accounts anyway, just in case, then...
