The soccer clubs were chosen for their “deep roots in their communities and reflect the diverse role grassroots football plays around the world,” according to a release. Particularly, the selected clubs in Seattle have worked to increase access and representation for women in soccer, with Salmon Bay FC being a “women’s team that is fully women-owned and led,” the release said. Salmon Bay FC was established in 2024 as a sister team to Ballard FC, which was established in 2021.
