There's just something not right about a fence on top of a castle wall.

Yeah it did kind of ruin the look but castle is owned by English Heritage so they gotta have it up there for health and safety reasons.

And historically I am pretty sure they would have had a wooden fence around the inner part of the wall though some didn't

It's just a funny little anachronism. I understand safety and historical concerns.
