Do you think they're intentionally trying to weaken the US, or just stupid?
Honestly, it's really hard to tell. I'm pretty sure some of them are just that stupid, but there's also some that have no problem undermining the US to enrich themselves. And of course there's some that are both.
I think that in this case, you're talking about people for whom there is no separation between reality and philosophy. He and people like RFK do stuff like this because it is what they WISH were the proper thing to do, regardless of what happens. Just like abstinence-only education.
