Yeah, but if you do not do AA you do not get a coin. I have been sober 30 years this month, unless you count 2 zimas, and a sip of a fuzzy navel, then 20 years, and I never got no coin.

I was a teenage alcoholic and know I needed to quit to make anything out of my life. Now I am almost 50 and unemployed, but I am sober.

Ooooh! I'll make you a 3d printed coin. I can probably mail it cheap too. Like regular snail mail. Or you can get it printed to a buddy with 3d printer. Let me do a design.

That would be awesome. However I am in the states, I have no idea what kind of shipping we would be looking at from Canada any longer. Maybe just an STL, I can get someone in town to print it for me.

I only know about AA from movies and tv. Why fuck them?

My understanding is that they encourage a recognition of a "higher power", which doesn't have to be God or a religious concept.

AA isn't perfect but it has helped an incalculable number of people get sober. It isn't going to work for everyone but it has worked for a lot of people.

Addiction is such a complex and individual affliction there is never going to be a generic method that works for everybody. But I think AA does help a lot of people, and should be recognised for that while still acknowledging its flaws.

Are you sure you didn't feel helpless because of withdrawal?
