RIP. I'll never forget my first playthrough of origins or DA2. DA3 is where things started to fall off for me. I didnt touch failguard. That shit looked like a meme.

Sadly, I think Mass Effect Andromeda and (presumably) DA Veilguard are leagues above (say) Starfield and mechanically.

And narratively, in some ways.

If some AA had released Andromeda/Veilguard without launch bugs, as original IPs, the reception would be very different.

It’s just that expectations are so different. Dragon Age: Origins/ME2 are very high bars, and the IPs are so precious.

And narratively, in some ways.

I could eat nothing but mac n cheese, hamburger, corn, and hot cheetoes for a month and generate a more compelling story in my bowels than all three of these games.

1

Really sad that origins was a false promise, or maybe a death rattle for bioware. They'll never make a good game again.

1

Death? They just released Veilguard. I’m still on the second one, anyway. It feels flat compared to the first one, but I’m not far into it. Still, I partially “blame” it for being the reason I started playing (a modded version of) Animal Crossing New Leaf on my (modded) 3DS. Dragon Age 2 is still my current Xbox game, but I really haven’t been into it like I was the first one… or the Mass Effect games.

1

Well, Dragon Age 2 is such a departure narratively and gameplay-wise that they should have just called it something else. None of the games reach the level of polish DA:O had.

Personally I also thought ME:1 was the only good Mass Effect, but Bioware fan-thems really don't like that.

Edit: Also, Taash is such an insufferable character I'm half convinced the writer was paid off to make the most unlikeable trans person in fiction (Now that I've had that thought I realize I don't know of many 'trans' villains — anyone have good examples? Even characters like Taash that are just strictly unlikeable.)

...death? what death? veilguard is excellent. all the dragon age games are. i replay them all the time.

i think that the "stop killing games" movement has a lot more work than simply rescuing games from extinction. there seems to be an epidemic of drama when it comes to gamers liking or disliking a game. (and Gaming related news/entertainment pieces)

what a silly headline.

I liked Veilguard too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also liked Inquisition.

2

Inquisition might actually still be my favorite in the series, oddly enough. its just such a wild ride.

What are you on? Veilguard is terrible, I'd sooner go play Bethesda slop. Wasn't it so bad they shuttered the IP?

"Veilguard is terrible"

"wasn't it so bad...?"

a game you never have played is terrible? 🤨 why you commenting on a game you haven't even played.

English your second language? That sentence means "want the consequence of this being so bad the end of the grandkids?"

great! did you play veilguard though?

edit: hasn't played a game and downvotes me for liking it. lol.
