Depends, what's your smartphone and is it supported by either postmarketOS or ubports? Otherwise you most certainly can't switch to a linux based os for your smartphone. Best course of action then would be to switch to a different Android Distribution e.g. /e/os or GrapheneOS.

Okay that's good. Check out the first two links I initially posted and read the docs or go through the tutorials. Linux on phones is mostly a hands on approach, and until you try it you won't know for sure if it works for you or not.

well, ignoring my suggestions and question; good luck then.

If you're talking about switching your current phone to Linux, yeah, idk.

But, if you're willing to purchase a new device, then the Jolla C2 or the Sony Xperia 10 III apparently run SailfishOS decently.

(I recently ordered an Xperia 10 III from Jolla Devices with SailfishOS. I was hoping it could become my main phone...)

What benefits are you looking to achieve? Basically are you just really interested in getting linux to run on your phone (In a can it run DOOM kind of way)? Or are there specific uses / etc you're focused on?

TLDR I suspect what you really want is just an open source android OS, not linux persay.
