Love me some turkeys. My neighbors have a flock of about 30 that just owns the whole hollow. I get a few hens in my back woods all the time.

I love seeing their "roll call" when they all gather up in the morning, its adorable.

I was sitting in my deer blind one day this past fall, and I saw a single jake go by barking the whole way. Dunno if it was lost or booted or what. Heard it coming from like two acres away and heard it bark until it was over the ridge and down the other side, at least another acre away. Goofy birds.

They were common where I live a few hundred years ago but we hunted most of them to near extinction by the early 1900.

When I was a kid 30 years ago they were very rare, but reintroduction efforts in the 70ies and 80ies, coupled with milder winters, are helping them to live and migrate north, so they are now common again in my region.
