Now watch the Ferraris take each other out.
It almost happened! Holy shit...!
That would be so painfully ironic. Imagine going from P1 and P3 in qualification to a lap 49 DNF.
I was so worried the entire time
That was an unusual rookie mistake by Hamilton. 🤔
That collision was 100% on Lewis. Piastri is such a smooth operator.
Alex Wurz said that Piastri left a bit too little room - but yeah, Lewis definitely is the one who caused the collision
Wasn't Piastri going straight on the right side of the track and Lewis veering to the right? How is he supposed to give more room?
Yeah he had a few inches to the grass, not sure where he was supposed to go there
5 second penalty felt light give he just took a constructor rival out of the points.
Yeah bring back the drive thru penalties.
I expect so much more from him tbh.
Leclerc's performance the last laps laps was dismal. He completely lost his head, heavily overdrove his car and tires in corners and under braking and losing it entirely a couple of times.
I think he’s a bit frustrated. Ferrari have kept going backwards in his time there, and it’s got to hurt to see Max, who he kept up with almost 1:1 in all the junior formulas, winning everything and taking every record.
But yeah, his driving at the end was abysmal. The tifosi would have lost it if he took out Sainz in T1 of the final lap
Sainz, Leclerc and Perez basically doing identical laptimes. Let's ignore Max and it's all really tight
That describes the 2023 season really.
True story.
Crazy to think not too long ago Hamilton was lapping Albon in a Red Bull. Now Albon is ahead of Hamilton in a Williams
It makes me happy to see his recent success. He's out driving his car every weekend.
Almost 30 years of watching F1, and there's still something new 😄
race control being confused lol
Is this really news though?
Sainz seems to constantly move twice without consequences.
Isn't that legal so long as it's not done under braking?
Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I know it's allowed to move once before braking and not allowed under braking.
You would know more than me there. I can't tell you one way or the other.
Guess we both must die stupid then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Such an unfortunate turn of events
He is allowed to move back up (before the braking zone) while leaving a car width on the outside.
Braking late and running over the chicane is the defense maneuver of today?
Monza doesn't exactly encourage overtaking
Almost bit too quick for it to be an unforced mechanical failure. Bet someone forgot to connect something, or unplug something.
I was expecting a dull race for some reason, but it turned out to be a pretty fun one
Rogue mechanics jumping onto the grid lol
Kinda looked like Alfa to me.
I thought it was someone from Aston - unless the Alfa lot have different gear this week with the livery change.
Someone is getting a penalty
I haven't seen anything noted by the stewards yet. I'm surprised though, I figured for sure it would be an infringement. Maybe it won't be looked at until after the race.
It sounds like the teams were told, but not the people on the gates, so it might have been ok
I’m excited to see the new and innovative strategies Ferrari will use to completely fuck up their race.
Switch Leclerc and Sainz back and forward and then double stack them.
And forget to get the tires ready.
Oh wait, the pits are ok, the strategy is logical. Time for the drivers to fight each other on cold hards.
Edit: this is the thing I dislike about Max' dominance. Other drivers have given up on winning so hard they'd rather fight their teammates for a chance at a podium. And I do cheer for Max as he's Dutch but has a Belgian mother. (And I wish good things for Ferrari because of Schumi nostalgia and because Red cars are pretty)
Nah just see if Leclerc can use the kerb to get enough to air to stack himself right on top of Sainz, then get a 2-3 finish that way.
Carlos doing so well to control Max's attack.
He really is. It's all he can do, too. Not enough pace to build a gap.
Happy the two Ferraris finished that race in one piece. Those last couple laps were intense. I’m always happy to see two drivers from the same team battle, but that was something else. Congrats to Max for the 10 wins in a row.
I'm fairly certain the McLarens will pass Albon, but I hope Albon stays in the top 6.
If anyone can stretch those tires it's Albon.
Albon has great speed on the straights, but his tires are getting old, now.
Yuki out before the race start. Not an auspicious beginning.
Better now than during the first lap or two I suppose.
Soo, how far will Vestappen be ahead today?
A: 0-10s
B: 10-20s
C: 20-30s
D: more than 30s
Is this after the first lap or first pitstop...
Think the real question is: how many corners until sainz ends up in the gravel?
He can't help it, it's in his genes. His dad races on gravel all day.
Perma opposite lock

This comment aged like milk. What a drive he put in!
If F2 is anything to go by today, it'll be A due to so many people going off. Which heavily increases the likelihood of another driver dive-bombing him, not being able to brake, and to take him out because it's glory or nothing. My money would be on Leclerc doing that because his position is being threatened by Sainz.
D will not happen. Then he will demand an additional pitstop for softs and the fastest lap.
This is a fantastic race!
It was! That chicane really put in the work today. Nail biter the whole race.
Ham seems to be on good strat, medium tire till the end of the race
He's going to make this McLaren-Williams fight really interesting
Sainz did excellent. Ferrari just needs to not screw up their pitstop now.
He did absolutely everything he could. The best racing against max we've seen all season.
Hopefully the undercut is powerful.
Italian civil war right here
Rosberg cant let go of his phone 😂
He just matched with a hottie on tinder.
Himself?
Austrian TV just aired a highlights summary of the 1988 Italian GP, which was the only race of that season not won by Senna/Prost in the McLaren. Gerhard Berger and Michele Aboretto snabbed the double win for Ferrari in their first race victory in a decade.
Really cool to see these kinds of historical tidbits.
I remember watching that race, live. Jebuz, I'm old.
I'm sure hoping a similar streak is broken this weekend.
I'm undecided, I'd love to see a new record set as well, for consecutive race wins by one driver.
I dont care what happens as long as its intersting. If Verstappen wins after a nice fight with sainz then I am fine. If Sainz just drives off into the distance verstappen/hamilton/vettel style its as boring as the previous races
I'm a little torn too, but I want to see Ferrari win here too much
How has Perez not yet gotten a penalty for track limits? I thought for sure he's left the track more than 3 times.
He's given the positions back, which is basically the consequence. Overtakes outside of track limits aren't legal, but the stewards generally just order the position returned to the driver who was ahead before the driver left the track.
I thought track limits were track limits though? Even if a position/advantage isn't gained.
This is the part where I say I'm not an expert on Formula 1 rules. You'd have to ask someone far smarter than me.
No, you don't get track limits penalties for going off-track if you lost time doing so
Often the stewards will say they won’t be strict at certain corners. This lets the drivers carry additional speed through those corners and go off on the outside.
But they certainly will hand out penalties for repeated offenses at corners they haven’t okayed, because the main reason drivers repeatedly go off at a corner is because it is faster to go off at that corner.
In that case they gain time. If someone is repeatedly pushed off at a corner at loses time every time, they will never get a track limits penalty for that.
Stewards should have given him a warning for track limits for sure
First time this year I've seen the other cars not look like F2 cars alongside the red bulls.
Probably more laps led by a non-Redbull this race than every other race combined this season
So now 10 laps until sainz tires give up and max drives by?
"he's already sliding so it's all OK" - Max
Well, he's not gaining from it, and it's in response to Sainz not leaving much room to work with.
What are the chances that McLaren beats Aston Martin in the constructors by the end of the season? They've already fallen behind Ferrari.
Seems unlikely to me. The gap's far too much to cover in 8 races even if it's only Alonso scoring points for AM.
So what happened to Ocon, anyone knows?
The entire track is a DRS train
Don't the Mercs traditionally run hot?
They definitely were with the "no-pod" spec cars, but it think it's gotten quite a bit better since they've moved away from that concept.
Thanks, mate. Appreciate the explanation
Everyone on grid so no advantage.
Ferrari, and more specifically Sainz did his best there. Now we have to see if Ferrari can at least hold on to 2nd and 3rd.
Now here's to hoping Williams doesn't fuck Albon on strategy
Race director uses teamradio and Discord to communicate with the teams, according to Alexander Wurz.
For some reason no message via the official notification board this time, usually this should happen (and is visible as a toast message on the TV feed).
Aaand Max got past Hamilton who still has to pit.
Masterclass drive by Max. Hamilton is washed-out.
/s
Dang. Yuki out already. Hopefully Liam's car is fine.
So it’s 4 DRS trains so far.
Perez not able to pull away from Leclerc, and losing to Sainz
This year's hards were last year's mediums, right?
Are these hards expected to last the rest of the race?
The tyre compounds are selected on a per race basis, yeah? But yeah I think the hards are supposed to last roughly 30 laps.
Alonso taking a siesta
Just like Kimi nodding off in the car.
"Try your best". Thank you, Ferrari, that's great advice.
Awesome start by Carlos! Hopefully Leclerc can keep on Max and put a little pressure on him
3 tenors? Who could have predicted that?
So what are the odds something moronic is done by one of the drivers on lap 1 and we get a Red Flag?
Expecting maximum procession. Pits only chance for advance
The only chance Ferrari have to win this race is crash out Max. Let's be honest here
They're definitely not going to win on pace. Hopefully Ferrari can make the better strategy calls (lol)
What's a pit stop worth? For when it rains? lol
So now everything again with lawson?
It seems like pitted for the Hards way earlier than everyone else. Curious to see if it helps them or not.
Leclerc has already dropped so much since losing DRS.
gg wp see you next week
I'm always hoping for a safety car at this point in a race.
I wonder if they'll have to lift and coast if they underfueled because of potential safety cars.
Not after three formation laps
True, but I'm still curious whether some people gambled harder. If they had to get Yuki's car out during the race it would have been more laps I think.
Russell's already 7s ahead of the car behind him, negating the penalty.
I am muting this insane commentary.
LeARn ThE GEarS.. UPshIFt. haLf Up, DOwn
Snooze fest so far. Honestly surprised Carlos is still ahead.
