Does anyone know how I need to format it so the boxes don't look all messed up?
If you use the "code" option (three backticks [aka this guy: ` ] above and below what you need to format) you get something that looks like this
Or a lot of people choose to put three spaces between each line, which looks like this.

I don't personally like the space option because I'm on mobile and my phone auto inserts a period if I place multiple spaces, which makes it a bit more fiddly.
You can also do two linebreaks between each line, which is a little faster but looks clunky, like this
