@rubenstorm I use Raccoon on android and I am looking for something (fedistar?) on my windows desktop, but since I am a complete Friendica newby I'm open for suggestions.
@rubenstorm Let me start by saying that my favorite Dndroid client is... the browser! I like having complete control over the interface, and the browser is unbeatable. Furthermore, the ability to automatically translate posts in other languages is essential for me.
That said, the best app for Friendica is definitely Raccoon for Friendica, although the developer is experiencing some issues with the current state of Kotlin Multiplatform, so development is currently somewhat stalled.
The elements that make for an excellent user experience are, in particular, the following:
Ability to manage multiple users
A formatting bar integrated into the message composer
Ability to view Activitypub groups, showing only the topics and not all conversations (a bit Lemmy-esque). This mode is available not only for Friendica groups, but for all Activitypub groups, from Lemmy communities to NodeBB categories, Peertube channels, and Mbin magazines.
Side-scrolling feature: when you click on a message in the timeline, you can swipe left and right to view other conversations, without having to return to the timeline.
Ability to insert images inline with the text, and not just import them as attachments (like in other clients), Mastodon-style.
Customizable interface colors.
Finally, all these features can be used by both Friendica and Mastodon users, because not only is Raccoon compatible with Mastodon, but Mastodon Glitch-soc users can also take advantage of the formatting toolbar.
Raccoon's flaws, however, are as follows:
A certain immaturity that leads to some crashes (fortunately less frequent than a year ago).
Some difficulties with searching, both on Friendica and on Mastodon
The fact that it still doesn't handle "reshare with quote", both the classic Friendica ones and the weird Mastodon ones.
@jerry1970 Yes to both. Unfortunately, there's still no fully fledged mobile client for Friendica and a bunch of features that seem more or less "needed" (like general filtering of posts, in example, or notification filtering, ...) don't work this way. Still, Fedilab is rather good at this. @rubenstorm
@jerry1970@z428@rubenstorm Yeah, the problem is the API doesn't apply the filtering, only the web site rendering code does. I've been meaning to try and fix that. I can't use an app otherwise, too much shit on the timeline. It would be my first patch for friendica.
@gmc@z428@rubenstorm
I find that the hardest part to get into Friendica. Every reply looks like a first post, no relation shown, so the timeline is very long and unordered. I scroll through a lot of items, no doubt missing interesting ones. It also keeps me from finding new people as it will only make the timeline worse.
@dennismelhede@rubenstorm Yes!
It is fast and doesn't list all incoming postst and answers in chronological order without context - like you get in Tusky or Fedilab. Instead you have to tap on the main (first) post, which is shown in your timeline, for getting the full thread nice sorted.
Beside that, you have good features for adding links and 'ALT Text' when creating a new post or an answer.
This is for Android. I think on desktop it doesn't have advantages in comparison to Browser/Frio-Theme.
@bionk@rubenstorm Trying it out now, this post is from Relatica.
Generally it looks good, and I like it.
It does have a strange initial (I hope) issue with loading notifications. For example I couldnt find this thread, as the notifications I have in the Web client wasnt here. There were strangely only notifications up until 2 days ago. BUT the last update you did, after I had installed it actually DID generate a notification.
I have a feeling posts looks nicer here, but I will compare more thoroughly when I have better time.
@dennismelhede@rubenstorm Notifications - good point.
I forgot about that and i cannot say anything about that, because my Android doesen't have Google-Services and as a result i cannot activate notifications for Relatica.
@bionk@rubenstorm Oh, and my contacts dont populate at all, it started with one, and now has two. It has a banner saying it will take time, but I assume it can get my contacts right from my profile...

@rubenstorm Raccoon.
Bye. Marco
@rubenstorm Fedilab, but I don't do much with Friendica on my phone or tablet, mostly just checking alerts.
Raccoon is not updated since a while and I have errors when I add an account to it!
The 1.0 release of Raccoon for Friendica for Android was released last week.
@rubenstorm you should try Relatica, it has just been released in Play store. Previously it was only available from Gitlab.
@rubenstorm
Fedilab. Though I do like the website better in some parts

@jerry1970 @z428 @rubenstorm Hh, that's the complete opposite from how I experience friendica. Everything is nicely organised by thread.
@gmc @z428 @rubenstorm
How do you do that? That's not an experience. Nothing is organised in my timeline, only chronologically
@jerry1970 @rubenstorm Fedilab can't edit a post on Friendica 😢
@dennismelhede @rubenstorm
I just edited a post, no problem
@rubenstorm Just a web browser. I've got custom css to hide filtered posts. Some clients don't even support filters at all. I need filters for sanity.
@gmc @rubenstorm
Which one accepts custom CSS? Would love to try that
@rubenstorm Relatica and Browser
@bionk @rubenstorm Do you recommend trying Relatica?

@bionk @rubenstorm Neither have I, but still there is a notifications tab, which loads with links to the active threads.
@dennismelhede @rubenstorm True, we might use it without automation.
