Ousted South Korean president faces death penalty in insurrection case

South Korea, the country of K-pop, Kia and Samsung, a stable democracy for decades. More than a year ago, on 3 december 2024 the conservative president Yoon announced a state of siege live on television and plunged South Korea into chaos for 6 hours. Yoon seemed to be radicalized by the idea that North-Korea was on the break of attacking South-Korea and he wanted to save South Korea himself from this.

Yoon's seizure of power eventually ended in prison. And for the first time, a democratically elected president is now facing the death penalty. Yoon never showed remorse.

The documentary 'The Seoul Guardians' about the coup just premiered by a South-Korean filmmaker at the International Rotterdam Film Festival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4IetUt0yPQ
