💚 right here with you. I'm glad that over the years, the very unreasonable pestering from other people to try and reconnect to my father (who still pretends that he did nothing wrong), as some kind of show of womanly magnanimity and spiritual development to prove myself worthy, has faded away.
Oh Gawd Cennalink strikes again.
Just got a text to day that I have an appointment with a DES agency tomorrow for an interview re: getting work.
Fortunately I'm able to go and quite willing to discuss strategies so I can hit the ground running when I am fit to start working, but isn't it fucking typical?
They keep delaying the processing of my application but I was still supposed to earn 100 points for no health care card and no money. I didn't do it. It's almost a month late now.
Folks it's my last Sunday night for a long time before I have to work on Monday. Wish me luck in clearing out the remaining tasks over the last 3 days. Starting a bit early tonight to get ahead of one task (need to concentrate and get the code right), before I focus on the next big thing tomorrow that will require much more strategic thinking
E: good old brain. Flails around subconsciously for days and then when I finally sit down in the right frame of mind, the solution comes to me in a brilliant stroke and a relatively simple SQL query pulls everything together. Fuck yeah SQL saving me from doing this shit the hard way, or god forbid, having to learn an actual programming language
E2: glory hallelujah what I thought would take 4 hours took 40 minutes and nothing complicated at all.
Just quietly... I think I want to be out of Victoria by next winter. I need a break. Either a permanent move interstate, or move all my stuff into storage and go travel for 3 months. I could go to the US and travel with/stay with my brother on the cheap. Finally go on a road trip now that I've got my licence and enough driving experience/confidence.
I've lived in Perth and Brisbane before and wouldn't mind going back for a stint depending on work and cost of living. Helps that I have closer family in both places but not in melbs
I'm from Brisbane, and I'd maybe go back if I could get something on the far north coast, something between Yeppoon and Mackay. I'd honestly go way further, but then you run into crocs and the beach becomes a bit pointless, and you start having to actually deal with wet/dry seasons.
Oof yeah having grown up in the proper tropics overseas, as much as Melbourne winters can be a bit depresso I also don't ever want to go back to proper tropical humidity. Plus as a brown chick I have accepted that my chances of having a good social life and feeling safe are lower outside of major metropolitan areas or hippy towns. I think the Sunny Coast is as far north as I'd like to go.
Yeah, fair call! As someone who's spent a lot of time in rural FNQ (Grandparents own a very large cattle farm, and many other members own farms as well), I hate to admit it, but a lot of folks (young and old) still have some very old world views and values. I'll never forget my Grandparent's reaction to my sister dating and eventually bringing home a lovely Filipino lad, they did all but clutch their pearls and hide the silverware.
Two quarrelling wattle birds have just crashed into my front window. Beak first. If they had any brains to begin with, those brains are now mashed potato. Which explains a bit about wattle birds.
In the Melbourne CBD, on Lonsdale St with the 90º median parking. Two people on opposite sides pulled halfway into a spot, blocking a lane in each direction, including some cops in a marked car.
Lights come on and three cops got out of the car, the driver was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ arms up high and kicked them both out of the parking spot, then went about their day moments later.
The car that was in front of me / behind the cops then promptly took that spot.
The birds have been hard at work cracking snails on my roof this morning, and while I'm awake and working anyway it's in its 3rd hour and beginning to get a little annoying.
Be careful because they may have read the story of Aeschylus, an ancient greek playwright who was killed by a falling turtle that had been dropped by an Eagle who had confused Aeschylus's shiny, bald head for a rock. This is apparently a true historical account and golden eagles in greece do kill turtles by dropping them onto rocks.
I think you’ve solved the mystery of the noises I’ve been hearing on the roof! Couldn’t work out how the birds were making so much noise with their soft little feet
Well the sleep-in gods denied me the zzzs this morning, so finished some laundry and drank all the required Hydralite. I’m washed and dressed and awaiting company to revel in this sunshine.
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing (haha, no Marx for you) I hope you’re having a good day. Be in the moment and if you’re having a bit of one, remember this too shall pass.
Going to write stern but fairly worded letter to Geelong council about a very bright street light they've installed. Honestly 3 x the lumens of a normal street light and it's on a road that has next to zero (0) traffic.
It is also next to an area has a heap of active frogs (when weather permits). Insects are going to head towards the light.
It will go a little something like this:
"Oi g-town cunts dim your shitty light,
regards
Bottom racer".
I intend to do this before the pobblebonk awakens. They need food.
There was a movement a while ago trying to get buildings and advertising etc. to shield lights and point them down towards the ground but it fell on deaf ears.
I truly believe shitty lighting is contributing to insect decline (and all that rely on them).
Oh your comment reminded me, I went past that new joint on Kew Junction. Jesus but that electronic billboard facing Studley Park Road is eye searingly bright. I hope the building across the road isn't occupied, it's like a bloody floodlight
"24 8x10 coloured photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was" May you have more luck than Officer Obie.
Probably shouldn't have but I've picked up a 1970s collected edition of E.M Foster's early works (Howard's End, Room wiith a View, A Passage to India, Where Angel's Fear to Tread, The Longest Journey). I only went in looking for a copy of Howard's End because I couldn't find my old copy, which knowing me I probably just gave away without a thought to get it back.
O Gracious Bacon, thank you for bestowing upon me the sweet ambrosia of a hot, caffeine-laden beverage. I will sing your praises all across the Inner-North, O Wise and Generous Bacon.
Feels nice to feel like I'm in a position of power in requesting a raise at work. While it would be nice if they meet my request (~10% increase), I'm actually feeling okay to put my money where my mouth is and start actively applying elsewhere. They would be silly to let me go for this amount, but I wouldn't put it past them.
Lunch has been eaten, and the children have commenced the "can we go to the park" campaign. I have commenced the "let me finish a cup of tea after cooking a roast for lunch" campaign.
yep. I think they had second thoughts about whether it was appropriate. But it is still showing in my inbox notificatation on the Sync app, that proving we can never truly erase things once they are out there on the internet.
I get spinner on the browser, it shows up but disapears when clicked in Sync, shows as deleted in Connect and shows as a collapsed comment that won't open in Jerboa.
My cat decided to let me sleep in till 5.15 today the little champ. Logged into my friends little minecraft server and they'd built a little party setup for one of the players. it was pretty amazing, it must have taken them ages. nice way to start what is looking to be another beautiful day. happy sunday everyone.
So if someone replies to a post and then someone replies to the reply then the original replier deletes their comment that might explain the duplication and spinny thing 💡 . Have I just solved the problem? Quick test it out.
I swear the spinny thing used to show up more regularly when there were a large number of comments, and not just with deleted comments (I'd view the same thread while logged in on a desktop browser and be able to see more). Never mind, that must be a relic now...
It does suck when it's so easy to accidentally delete comments on mobile at least when you open the editing interface - but then, if that happens you can actually undelete your comment from the same interface for a bit afterwards by clicking on the bin button again
I think what we need to do now is find out why comments collapse after 300+. If that could be fixed then if someone does delete a comment spinny thing comes out but doesn't fuck with chain.
Sometimes I listen to right wing/conservative experts and pundits to try to figure why they are popular and to hear what shit they are saying.
I also don't want to be in an echo chamber.
I found that the right wing change how they speak according to the audience, when they are talking to normal media they sound quite reasonable, once they talk to people they think are sympathetic they show their true racist or sexist colours
Reasonable people don't change what they say, they have nothing to hide.
After a week and a half of holidaying and partying, I found out on Thursday I have an ear and chest infection and still recovering while loaded up on antibiotics so very quiet today.
Went out for a bit of a walk but not feeling like doing much so did a little cooking and catching up on TV shows, although I can't believe Wheel of Time got a second season...
I've also started reading The Zen of Cat as a whimsical but good book as I've noticed I'm getting stressed over trivial shit too.
I just laughingly apologised to my son for not having a father's day anymore. He was the first person I told I'm trans and he's been calling me mum ever since. I'm beat. Slept in a bit, went to bed early, had two hours chilling in bed with the cats and done sweet fa.
Quiet day here, but we're beating reddit. I don't see any of the old DT crew much at all anymore. I guess they're dialoguing somewhere else.
B Sharp Big Band was good, swing music is much better when consumed live rather than via recording.
Dancing, singing, mingling with the oldies - perfect Sunday with Dad.
Edit: also Wilbur Wilde turned up, did a few Sax songs and then launched into a jazz cover of Wonderwall - that song has never sounded better, and it was epic to see Wilbur live!!
Was that in st kilda? I've never felt more out of place looking queer as fuck and never more proud to be queer as fuck walking down ackland street with all the bogans. Cars were good though but yuck, felt like I was going to catch something, I'm definitely crowd phobic now.
Wow I must be really out of touch! When I lived in St Kilda in the mid-late 80s to mid-late 90s St Kilda was full of artists, queers, queens, all kinds of "alternative" types of people. It was starting to get gentrified when I moved out of there after a relationship breakup. Haven't really been back.
Today's event was aimed at dads, families and car lovers hence the bogans. That may be a sign of the times though, there are few indie places that's for sure. I'd say it got expensive and the inner north took over a lot. I mean I'm older, still alternative and obviously queer I would think, but I enjoy this side of town. I don't need to see lots of similar looking people, I've always been a black sheep among black sheep and cynical about scenes I think. I'm pretty sure plenty of people my age have stuck around who are what you describe, but it's mostly people in puffer jackets walking their dogs lol. Which I'm fine with. It's still inner city melbourne.
The craw is Orac would be highly insulted at being utilised thusly. Marvin is just begging for suicidal appliances, and Holly is out for broadly similar reasons.
I was in luck at the food cupboard - today's bakery selection included a herb foccaccia. A few pieces in the freezer, and a few pieces in my stomach.
I also filched a section of pipe offcut from the building site over the road. A few more and I will have enough to do a planter section in them along the side of the house, which should help to both add interest by including different heights and raise them up a bit to give a few extra minutes of sunshine which is in short supply in that area.
💚 right here with you. I'm glad that over the years, the very unreasonable pestering from other people to try and reconnect to my father (who still pretends that he did nothing wrong), as some kind of show of womanly magnanimity and spiritual development to prove myself worthy, has faded away.
Uggh, I hate those 'but faaaamily' types.
I feel that. I let go of the guilt a long time ago. In my culture the son is supposed to look after their parents in their old ages.
Mum passed away when I was in high school and I haven't seen the old man since.
And am grateful I haven't. It wouldn't be good for either of us.

Nice..
You're nice

Geez they don't give you much time!
Plus I've got a medical certificate until the 21st. facepalm. From experience I suspect wires have been crossed somewhere.
They keep delaying the processing of my application but I was still supposed to earn 100 points for no health care card and no money. I didn't do it. It's almost a month late now.
It's Father's Day! I work at an outdoor venue and we predict it'll be chockers...
Pity the poor Bunnings staff - and if you have to go there, make their life a bit easier if you conveniently can.
Folks it's my last Sunday night for a long time before I have to work on Monday. Wish me luck in clearing out the remaining tasks over the last 3 days.
Maybe do some state hopping, you might find somewhere you really enjoy.
I've lived in Perth and Brisbane before and wouldn't mind going back for a stint depending on work and cost of living. Helps that I have closer family in both places but not in melbs

Another beautiful sunny day. :) I'll just water a few of the plants then go out to buy some materials to make masks.
Two quarrelling wattle birds have just crashed into my front window. Beak first. If they had any brains to begin with, those brains are now mashed potato. Which explains a bit about wattle birds.
Yikes, that sounds pretty horrible. Did neither of them make it?
One is dead. The other was dazed and confused for a bit, but then wobbled away. Don't like its chances. Nature's way can be pretty horrible.
Melbourne road today:
In the Melbourne CBD, on Lonsdale St with the 90º median parking. Two people on opposite sides pulled halfway into a spot, blocking a lane in each direction, including some cops in a marked car.
Lights come on and three cops got out of the car, the driver was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ arms up high and kicked them both out of the parking spot, then went about their day moments later.

Not even a little embarrassed to say I only know this story because I saw it on Horrible Histories.
Never be embarrassed about the source of knowledge as long as the information is trustworthy.
Horrible Histories is a legendary show, very popular in my house. Some of the songs are classics! I especially like this one about Dick Turpin.
Oh man, check out stand and deliver
I think you’ve solved the mystery of the noises I’ve been hearing on the roof! Couldn’t work out how the birds were making so much noise with their soft little feet
I find they get right into it on sunny mornings, lots of tap tap tapping.
“Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the key-hole.” 😨😨😨
Oh shit, shit's about to get real.
Sooner or later they will run out of snails. Have hope.

So so good.
You’re the voice that will make history.
Thanks for drawing my attention to this!
Stop deleting shit people. It fucks shit up.
But can I delete shit people?
I don't think you can but you can ignore them. I just read my post again. I guess I could've worded it better.
Going to write stern but fairly worded letter to Geelong council about a very bright street light they've installed. Honestly 3 x the lumens of a normal street light and it's on a road that has next to zero (0) traffic.

You might need a map to point out the problem light. Preferably a hand drawn one with a big red circle and arrows.
"24 8x10 coloured photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was" May you have more luck than Officer Obie.
Just up in my hotel room getting stuck into some mounds. Any day which doesn't start or end with a face full of mounds is a day wasted.
Could not agree more.
yay, I finally found an antique cameo shell, from about 1875. Just a sailor carved shell that says "God bless this home"

Mmmmm stale croissants for after-dinner snack 🤤

I made crispy airfried chicken wings. Forgot to take a pic cause I was very hungry but they were good. Must nap now.

Nice. 👍 A Passage to India is such a prescient book. ( Fielding is the modern 20th C international person )
My body has decided I am awake now ugh. Turned heater on to dry the clothes (warm me up), and made myself a coffee.

A couple days out, but imbibing this evening.
It has been far more fun than expected.
Edit: I haz made it home safely. Hello to my early morning peeps, but I shall be asleep.

Get that bread! I support this boss move
Get that cash, King!
Lunch has been eaten, and the children have commenced the "can we go to the park" campaign. I have commenced the "let me finish a cup of tea after cooking a roast for lunch" campaign.
I think I just worked out what spinny thing is for. I think it's when someone blocks you. Lol
I don't think it is either. I tried looking at the supposed reply to Rusty's comment on incognito and it still spun
Oh ok. Back to square 1.
The Devil is back because Nath isn't looking....
I'm about to summon him
On the connect app that one's showing as deleted.
So someone replied then deleted?
yep. I think they had second thoughts about whether it was appropriate. But it is still showing in my inbox notificatation on the Sync app, that proving we can never truly erase things once they are out there on the internet.
👍
Doesn’t even show up on the Mlem app. I get a spinner on the browser.
I get spinner on the browser, it shows up but disapears when clicked in Sync, shows as deleted in Connect and shows as a collapsed comment that won't open in Jerboa.
Poor comment is stuck in the ether... the purgatory of the spinny circle before finally being deleted from existence.
nope, I just had a look using Tor, still got the spinny thing
😂
Happy father's day to all the fathers out there.
My cat decided to let me sleep in till 5.15 today the little champ. Logged into my friends little minecraft server and they'd built a little party setup for one of the players. it was pretty amazing, it must have taken them ages. nice way to start what is looking to be another beautiful day. happy sunday everyone.
I’m depressed and sad. The bad news never end, i think that life hates me and it’s finally put the final nail in the coffin.
I want to restart my life, I don’t see a good end to this one.
Tell us more, what do you mean?
I’m just so sick of everything and sacrificing everything and living week to week and now it’s at the point of no return for me.
I may be evicted by the end of the year and I’m up shit creek. I’m stressed beyond belief and can’t even control my eczema either.
I shouldn’t be in this position and it shits me that I have to endure this.
That sounds awful, it definitely makes sense that you're feeling more than a little over it.
Have you been able to get a hold of someone you know IRL to let them know that you've been feeling particularly crappy tonight?
I have, it’s just problems with more problems compounded.
Nothing can be done.
I'm glad you're calling in for some support :)
Just going to veg out today. Yay. For those who struggle with father's day, do something nice for yourself ❤️
Exercises have been done, roast is mostly cooked, gifts unwrapped and the appropriate appreciative noises made. Now just fiddling around with veggies.
Ooh nice. I was lucky enough to have rib-eye roast and slow cooked brisket last night.
🎼You spin me right 'round baby right 'round like a record baby right 'round 'round 'round🎶
Around around the garden like a teddy bear 1 step 2 step tickle under there. Hehehe.
So if someone replies to a post and then someone replies to the reply then the original replier deletes their comment that might explain the duplication and spinny thing 💡 . Have I just solved the problem? Quick test it out.
I vote we officially name the spinny thing the Spinny Wheel of Deletion.
I'm ok with that.
Better than the Beachball of Doom on a mac.
S.W.O.D.
Deleted my original reply. Spinny boi showed up. Testing to see if a separate reply will show up
E: whoops. Looks like another reply to the parent erases the spinny wheel from the now deleted comment.
Spinny showed up here too
Very good work. We did it.

It does - I erased the spinny from my comment below. Good detective work.
Oops. Went into my other account to check it looked the same, and accidentally posted from there. It's like a visit from my Reddit self 🤣
Delete it. See what happens.
It would incur the wrath of the Spinny Wheel of Deletion.
That's ok. It's all in the name of science.

Yes. And it's also the name for a bunch of Big Bands lol, this one was the B# Big Band; they should come up if you google them and 'melbourne' :)
So cool. 😊
Did they do baby on board?
They didn't unfortunately! But they had some bangers, I couldn't name them but a number of them I certainly recognised!
(Dw I got the Simpsons reference 😉😉)
Omg I had a massive crush on Wilbur Wilde when I was younger.. was one of the main reasons I watched Hey Hey!

Current top contender is either ORAC or Trantor.
i called mine orac 🤷♀️ because who wouldn't 🤭
The craw is Orac would be highly insulted at being utilised thusly. Marvin is just begging for suicidal appliances, and Holly is out for broadly similar reasons.
how about "Talkie toaster"
Would you like some toast?
Yes please. 😊
You fool!
George, a nickname for aircraft autopilot.
Zora, USS Discovery's ship computer.
Athena, the computer for Watchpoint Gibraltar, Orca, and match announcer in Overwatch.
AM
HAL9000
Marvin the Paranoid Android
The Red Queen
Red Queen is another contender, i'll admit - but i feel going for murderous AI may be begging for trouble.....
AM is RIGHT the fuck out.
Depends. Evil - HAL, Friendly - R2D2
Heartbeep:
that looks like the worst Dr Who villian evah
Idk wtf that is but i have a strong urge to kill it with fire
from a 1981 sci fi called "Heartbeeps" heh.
Fuckit I'm calling my irrigation controller 'TORG'.
pretty sure that's the robot from Intergalactic 🤭 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qORYO0atB6g
Awful, awful film. Great for drinking games.
That would only inflame the desire in its heart.
Majel Barrett
I was in luck at the food cupboard - today's bakery selection included a herb foccaccia. A few pieces in the freezer, and a few pieces in my stomach.
I also filched a section of pipe offcut from the building site over the road. A few more and I will have enough to do a planter section in them along the side of the house, which should help to both add interest by including different heights and raise them up a bit to give a few extra minutes of sunshine which is in short supply in that area.
