Was it a good idea that Riot split the playerbase by developing a somewhat different version for consoles?

Shouldn't people be able to play crossplattform with all their friends?

I really think that this game would have been able to get a massive win in that department. Other games are also playable cross plattform (PC and Console), where you just can disable crossplay via a button.
