Yeah I agree, but their comment might have been read as if they were criticising patreon itself, since for a lot of people the concept of "app" is the whole service. That's why I asked for clarification while directing them to the good outcome :)

If no, then it's a different thing.
Steam only takes a cut from MTX that use steam payment services (Steam Wallet), not from all MTX that occurs within software distributed on their platform like what apple is doing. Valve does not prevent developers from using alternatives if they don't want to pay Valve for the convenience of using Steam Wallet.
Do Steam games even have subscription services? What are you even comparing?
