Looking for advice for a simple Jellyfin server
Hello,
I just found this nice little mini desktop PC that I could put next to my TV in the living room or hide somewhere in my apartment. I was wondering if this would be enough for a Jellyfin server. I'd probably attach an external HDD to it to store all the movies and tv series.
It's main use would most probably be only for personal use. I don't really intend to share it with anybody. I'll connect to it via my NVidia Shield box with the Jellyfin app.
I'll also use it to download torrents directly.
What do you guys think?
It should be good enough for your needs. I setup something even smaller and less powerful (celeron with 8gb ram) for a friend and it handles jellyfin and a few other apps no problem.
Nice! I think I might go ahead and get it. I'm going to install Linux on it. It might be cool to have an atomic distro on a thing like this for simplicity, especially with updates. What do you think? Any recommendations? Or should I just go with what I know and install Ubuntu server or Debian?
Well personally im more of a go with what you know kinda guy. Nothing beats good ole Debian for servers IMHO.
Id recommend having a look at cosmos cloud or yunohost
They both work great alongside debian, cosmos makes use of docker while yunohost takes a more direct approach to installing things.
Proxmox is another option, I use an Ubuntu LXC and run Jellyfin and other apps inside there, sharing my GPU to it for transcoding.
Looks like a good unit. Might be cheaper on eBay though.

What did you end up doing? :)
I ended up having a couple of grands worth of repairs on my car. So I couldn't afford it. 😑
Sorry bro. You can run it on a used cheap pc for 50-100$ when you can :)
