I watched "Man on the Moon" (1999)
My wife hadn't seen it and I recalled really enjoying it when I saw it years ago, so we threw it on the TV for some background noise while we both were working on some chores. A half hour in and we were both totally invested.
Jim Carrey plays Andy Kaufman in this biopic; which also features Danny DeVito, Paul Giamatti, Courtney Love, and a slew of other well-known comedians and entertainers reprising the roles that they played with Kaufman. Everybody's performance is solid (maybe most surprisingly, Love's), but Jim Carrey absolutely becomes Andy Kaufman and it's impossible to look away. There's so much hilarity, then that third act comes in and just devestates... Clearly a big effort on everyone's part and just so enjoyable. Definitely bears another watch soon.
If you haven't seen it watch the documentary Jim & Andy about the making of this movie. It follows Carrey's transformation into Kaufman and his often difficult behaviour on set due to always being in character. It is utterly riveting to watch, he really seems to be possessed by the spirit of Andy Kaufman.
Nice, I hadn't heard of it. I'll definitely be watching that soon. Thanks!
