[Meta] I've created a Discord Server AND a Matrix server for us to hang out on!
I feel like we have a nice community on here that is quite lively and chatty, so I thought why not give an additional space for like-minded people to hang out and chat on!
I actually went through the trouble of making the server look somewhat decent, but this is the very first time I'm doing this, so do definitely let me know if I should do something differently and let me know if you have any tips.
I'd love to see you there, and I hope you'll enjoy your time!
Edit: Right around after I launched the server, Discord decided to shit the bed, so we're also offering a Matrix space as well. If you're not on Matrix yet, creating an account is similar to how you'd create your account for Lemmy: you choose your host but can interact with all the other hosts.
Join my space /c/Soulslike https://matrix.to/#/#soulslike:matrix.org
Both servers are active, so you're welcome to visit both!
What if people are migrating from Discord?, what about Stoat or Root?
Yea, I picked the perfect time to get into Discord lol. I'll have to check out the other platforms myself - I don't know where I'm going currently.
Do you have a recommendation?
Sorry I've only just seen this, I use both Stoat and Root mainly but there's Fluxer chat too, I'd look around see what's best for you
Hey, if you're still interested in joining, we've set up a Matrix server as well. We're still testing things, but it seems to be working quite well, a couple people have joined already. :)
Is there a bridge between the two servers or is it just one big headache of split conversations?
We have a bridge set up between their individual General channels. Works quite well actually
Neat, good to know! Also I guess you've settled on Matrix now but fwiw there is also a Discord-Fluxer bridge now if you want other Discord alternatives for the future.
Honestly, Matrix has been working well for text but we can't figure out voice calls. Some Matrix programs allow for that right out of the box, others (like Element) don't regardless of mobile or desktop access - it's kind of a mess, really. Maybe checking out yet another platform might not be a bad idea. Although voice chat isn't the focus of the channel but being able to just chat to one another, it's definitely annoying
Consider GameVox too! 😊
Matrix is weird. I see the room has been set to public if joined from a link, but it is acting like I joined a private room and can't speak even though I joined from the link here.
edit: Nvm I just had to hit back and reopen the room in Element.
I can definitely see you in the members list, but you do not seem to have joined any of the rooms in the channel. You neither show up in those in the members list nor is there any notification of you having joined either:
Try to join the individual rooms, since you need to do that manually for each of them, and see if that works for you
It seems to have simply dupliacted the room on Pawb.Social and made me the admin. 😵💫
I dunno if I should try a different client or my original Matrix account on the Matrix.org instsnce. I've had other weird shit since Pawb.Social opened a matrix instance and set up my account on it.
lmao
AFAIK, the instance you're using shouldn't matter since it's decentralised and working in a similar manner to Lemmy. You should be able to find the community and join, at least that worked for everyone else so far.
If you try to join on desktop, is there any difference? And can you search for the community manually using the address of the community? Since it's set to public, you should be able to find it
