Yes, a PhD, and incidentally enough it killed my enjoyment of reading because it turned into work. About the best I’ve done is piecemeal William H. Gass essays and some Graeber. The burnout is real.
I have a grad degree in philosophy, but didn't start reading literature a lot until after I graduated. Mostly due to how close-minded, anti-art my program was. I never took a proper English class my entire undergrad or graduate careers.

Do you have a academic background in humanities/lit, or do you just read for fun? | Spyke

I read for fun -- and it is fun!
