Most conservatives are socially minded .... the only difference is that they want all those socially minded ideas to only apply to their particular ethnic or racial group and no one else. To them, every other racial group should serve their social agenda for their people's benefit.
Throwing others under the bus is an easy way to turn racists into political allies. It was a popular strategy in the first rise of fascism for obvious reasons, for example the Greek party wanted to genocide Turkey to Make Greece Great Again. FDR's coalition was put together under the premise that black people wouldn't get the same benefits, etc etc etc.
It's also why even the best kind of liberal can't be trusted, much less your Newsome types
Trump's social group would be super-rich white people. I can't really see how Mamdani caters to that group unless he's just lying about his entire platform.
The only actual effective way to eliminate or at least drastically reduce illegal immigration is to make legal immigration easier, cheaper, and faster.
Should still do UBI, though, with price controls to make sure that landlords and corporations don't just eliminate its usefulness by price gouging.
Considering they're currently deporting legal immigrants, dreamers, and actual citizens, it was never about illegal immigration. The Democrats pretending like illegal immigration was an issue to take seriously and deporting more people than the Republicans never won them an ounce of support from the real racist base. It only normalized the Republican position.
Here's an idea: an economy that doesn't just capture almost all money and power in a few dozen individuals, and instead actually incentivizes healthy societies and good governance
We could probably curb most illegal immigration by imposing harsh penalties for anyone found employing people illegally, but no one's ever gonna go after the owner class. Not that I think it's desirable to have fewer immigrants mind you.
Eww eww I have seen this game before. It is like when someone explains slavery but uses the word citizen instead! Or when Orwellian is the secret corpo buzzword. Or the jolly roger is Ycombiner alumni suits.
Yeah, Mamdani is the DNC but he doesn't feel like he has much party loyalty, and he also encouraged protest voters in 2024. I think the only saving grace here is he denounced the Chinese Dictatorship. Hopefully he is a synergistic member of the DNC capable of promoting and enacting positive reforms, like Bernie Sanders is despite 3rd party status.
It makes me like Mamdani even more. This is just what happens when a mushbrain who likes powerful aesthetics meets finely honed charisma.
There are hints about his approach you can gleam during the press meeting: I'd suggest that Mamdani presented himself as kindred to Trump by playing up how the media has attacked and misconstrued him, echoing what Trump believes about himself. He angled himself such that Trump inferred a group dynamic contrasting them together as separate from established powers (dems/reps) and the media. He puppetted him.
If anything, literally any single thing I did, received the praise of Hitler then I would immediately be looking to make some lifestyle changes. But I guess I'm not much of a diplomat in that sense.
I think the thing that doesn't make me think that was that if you watch the press conference, Mamdani never backed down on any former criticism of trump, while trump basically just glazed Mamdani. Sure, Mamdani expressed willingness to work with trump on affordability and such, but never compromised his core beliefs or denied that they have plenty of differences.

You literally just described national socialism…
If you think about it, social democracy historically was also moreso for this purpose, although moreso citizenship based.

which is why it's easy to make them erode civil rights, then they cry when their civil rights are eroded.

We can end illegal immigration and deregulate minimum wage by issuing a standard baseline amount to all legal citizens

Of course not.

why would we want to end "illegal immigration" when it's a bullshit phrase from the start. all borders are arbitrary.

A Trump meme? Really? This is fucking weird.
It's due to the recent press with Mamdani
Still doesn't make it any better, we still have to see that fat orange murderous nepo baby piece of shit scum of the earth's face.
My word filter catches every post that has "Trump" in the headline. But occasionally a stray Trump post makes it past the filter.
when the class loser desperately tries to get the popular kids attention in the school cafeteria
I gotta level with ya'll, Trump liking Mamdani now does not make me think better of Trump it actually makes me think less of Mamdani.
Yeah it makes me concerned he might turn out like Fetterman. Mamdani's campaign had more substance, though.
