Whenever I hear “game changer”, it never is.
Under €20,000, based on one of their most popular cars, not made by a Nazi. Game changer in a market of overpriced EVs.
especially because it probably won't be available in the Americas
Or Australia but to be fair we only by 3t bloated SUVs or trucks, so there is that.
Renault is one of many companies who DGAF about the American market, between tariffs and frivolous lawsuits, it's not worth it. Besides, no North American ass will fit in this car.
Its true there are a lot of fat asses in North America. But as someone who can wear size 32 pants ( fitting guys who are 5'10 to 6'0 and weigh in at between 179 lbs. and 192 lbs), the impression that everyone is a fatass is misleading. Finding pants in my size is a challenge because they are the most popular and rarely available if your trying to buying them at discount. I usually end up with 34s and have to wear a belt.
Every once and awhile you will see a Renault but its always a classic. I'd be really interested in this car if it was available to me
27 kWh seems quite low, even for a car with limited range requirement. It really makes me wonder if they couln't fit 35-40 kWh in.
Based on freepy available information, adding 10 kWh might raise the price by about 1000€. At least it would be a nice optional addon for those without a charging option at home.
We don't need more heavyweight EVs using energy just to carry batteries around to appease people who "need" >300km a day of range. It gets 260km range. That's fine. Especially since to charges to 80% in 30 minutes. Good time for a relaxed shit and a coffee.
The press release states that the Twingo will weigh 1200 kg, so even with 5-10 kWh more it wouldn't be classified as "heavyweight".
A larger battery means the car needs to be larger. And this is not supposed to be large car.
BYDs Seagull is about to be available in Australia (called the Atto 1 here and in NZ) and it is available as the base model with the battery of 30kWh and a bigger battery 43.2kWh "premium" model with a few extras like better electric motor etc

You already buy CATL batteries, so just use Sodium (Naxtra) and we have a deal.
This will likely still take a while. CATL will start the production of "Naxtra" in 2026.
And european manufacturers are quite cautious reagrding new battery tech, we saw that with the slow move to LFP.
Anything with Lithium should be cautiously approached.
Sodium should be a different story.
