Remember when we did stupid stuff out of boredom under the COVID lockdowns. Some of the sillier and more outlandish projects of the 17th century makes more sense to me now. I mean how bored must Newton have been to poke himself in the eye to make his eyelense shift. And the worst part... No Youtube to see what the other rich and bored crazies had invented. I don't miss the lockdowns, but I do miss the engineer with the squirrel feeders in his backyard.
Thomas of Aquinas, Joan of Arc, Saladin, Ghengis Khan, Otto I, and Dante Aligheiri took part in this, none questioning how they could sing a song that wouldn’t be written until the Early Modern era.
Just practicing a little social distancing, being a responsible citizen in an era of plague

Newton proving that going outside is gay.
I love the pose of his assistant. That guy is like "What fucking witchcraft is this?!? Run!!”
Better than the medieval celebs who did a montage poster of themselves singing Greensleeves.

What, should he have been dying to the plague too?
It was the style at the time, yes.
