Vieux Carré

Made in honor of the latest how to drink (though this is the traditional recipe, not the one on that episode)

0.5 Benedictine 0.5 rye 0.5 cognac 0.5 sweet vermouth

2 dashes each peychouds and angostura

Stirred, up

Very interesting drink. Almost tastes like coffee.

  1. it is a very interesting drink and is a delicious one at that, but...

  2. ...it does not taste like coffee. So if a coffee drink seems not up your alley that's okay. It's more of a much more floral Manhattan.

I absolutely love the Vieux Carre, but my preferred spec dials down the benedictine to a barspoon floated on top (its quite sweet, and you really want it for the aroma more than anything, IMO).

If you can get real Maraschino cherries, they make a killer garnish.
