I joined the reddit Melbourne dt because it looked fun. Sometimes I comment sometimes I don't. Then I read comments that are snarky and bitter and I think for a brief moment are you a cunt irl? Anyway love you guys ♥ (I am sober by the way. For the time being. Not afraid to show my feels).

14

Did you see the comments yesterday from the guy bragging about making a 3D printed gun and shooting a 100 rounds into Silvan Reservoir? He's a cunt IRL for sure

The people that wanted to be social came here, the people that wanted to sook stayed there.

7

That's true. This shit about "it's actually a random discussion now". Huh. Enjoy your 45 comments people.

My work computer had Lemmy blocked until today, so I found it hard to come on here during those moments where I needed a mental break from work. The DT feels like it's maybe 10% what it used to be and 90% people asking questions into the void. I miss it all being in one neat place, but given Reddit's slide towards (more) questionable content, I guess I'll just use this place as my dose of social media and leave it at that?

6
aussie.zone

Oh look I get it. I never left but when the same question comes up "where is everybody?" you have cunts with smartarse answers and yet you can answer in the most mature way. I always upvote you.

6
aussie.zone

cunts with smartarse answers and yet you can answer in the most mature way

Ugh, you're so right. And like, if that's what's left of Reddit then it's just going to turn into yet another Twitter alternative. That kind of response flies in the face of what the DT was, as well. So annoying. We used to be there to downvote that type of rhetoric but I guess without the positive community vibe to set the mood the rats are just going to scamper about.

5

Hahaha. That's spot on. I just can't do cunty behaviour. I just can't.

Some people call it "lurking" I call it "observing". Nothing wrong with that. Some people though have a problem with that.

6
aussie.zone

The melbourne sub is a shadow of it's former self. Way too many grumpy fucks.

6

There's a handful of gatekeeping smug smartarses on there that stand out like dog's balls now that we're gone. Oh but apparently we'll be back. Yeah nah fuck you. Bathe in your own shit if you like.

Good news with a sting. I got my new casual role and pay confirmed and it's definitely all in the right direction.

Unfortunately... Work wants the company car back immediately upon ending my ft role. They've been much more flexible with others who have gone casual in the past, and in the meeting he did say he'd give me some lead time so I can make my own arrangements, but... today after heading into the office he was all paggro and sarcastic again so I don't expect any favours.

I was prepared for the eventuality and overall I MUCH prefer letting go my old work than keeping the car on, but seeing it in writing - to happen two weeks from now - has definitely been a shock to the nervous system. Like whoa, I wasn't prepared to say bye so soon and go back to a carless life that fast, especially when I'll still have two weeks of catsitting to do after that.

I'm definitely feeling that big-change-loss-anxiety-fear (and OMG! how will i visit my friends or get bigger groceries etc? I won't be able to go into the office easily any more, no more regional trips unless I use carshare)

But I think it's mixed in with excitement and determination because life is definitely making me start to commit to what I want and get out of that rut. I've lived on far far less and without a car for most of my adult life. Crucially, i never have to worry about being kicked out of this country. So everything is heaps better than before.

It's time to get cracking ......after I indulge in some escapism tonight. Good Omens maybe.

14
aussie.zone

Surely you just slide it to a ledge that you can get under and have someone push it so you can have it on your shoulders, yeah? It only has the weight of one small car, or 8,890 bananas. She'll be right.

I am doing 3 samosa

They are deep fried.

I am swapping 2 (!) samosa for 1 sanity.

That's a good deal.

This has been a difficult week :(

11

Cheers comrades 🍻

Tonight we're celebrating an excellent report for our kid with food, beer and music 😉

11
aussie.zone

A quick little story. My kid has a big group of friends. One is very needy, very self-centred young lass. Another is a meek young man. Well yesterday he had enough (I don't know if this was in text or in person) but he told her "I can't grow as a person with you in my life" and then ended all contact. I could not stop laughing at this.

For the record a couple of the friends had deaths in the family and the young lass was complaining that nobody was paying any attention to her.

11
aussie.zone

What's the age bracket here? This kid seems wise beyond his years - I love it. I love how emotionally engaged kids are these days compared to when we were all growing up.

5
aussie.zone

Good on him and I hope the young lass is able to learn some things and stage a comeback story after that harsh truth.

2

Nearly at the dreaded 300 comments (with spinny thing and collapsed responses). I'm proud of us.

11

Confession of the day. When ever I go passed the canned fish aisle lately, I buy something. Today it was smoked mussels and a 90c tin of sardines. I can't help it. I now have a collection.

10
aussie.zone

I'd heard the legends online.. in my hubris I laughed in the face of them and dared to indulge in a hearty meal at US Taco Bell. Wearing cream coloured shorts, I challenged the legends and trusted not one, not two but three farts on my trip back to the hotel.. so I guess you can say I'm into extreme sports. Little did I know they were the horns sounding the announcement of the oncoming storm.

I am now an empty husk of my former self. I have been humbled by the Bell. The legends are true.

Pic of my life before it changed forever:

10
aussie.zone

... but was it worth it? The colour of the drink is amazing and terrifying.

7

You know what.. I think once I stop shaking and sobbing it will have been worth it

7
aussie.zone

You're a hero of the people. Thank you for your service.

Ps. Get some hydralyte in ya.

6
aussie.zone

You fought a brave and honourable battle. You lost where many others have, there's no shame in that. Be proud of what you accomplished and don't focus on the fecal torrent.

Is that Sierra Mist in the cup?

4

Thank you, I needed to read that.

It's Mountain Dew Baja Blast! A drink made specifically for Taco Bell US. Although they do sell it in bottles now too.. but the OG is from the fountain drinks at Taco Bell. It was on my list of things to try over here.

4

A tiring but productive day in the garden today. I have a bunch of old concrete channel drain sections so I've used those and some old bricks to make a raised drainage channel across the garden. So now I can empty the buckets of water I use in the potting area onto that and it takes most of the water across to my apricot tree (with a few leaks along the way which will water other plants too).

After doing that, cutting out the climbing rose this morning and a few other bits and pieces I am thoroughly exhausted. I'm going to have a shower, heat some stew to have with mashed potato for dinner and then it will be full on relax time.

10

Going to spend the night cuddling the cat and playing video games. Being sick isn't too bad with a fluffy friend who's chasing around a moth lol

10
aussie.zone

There's something just excellent about a fresh quality croissant - as-is. No filling.

10
aussie.zone

I'm giving a free pass to ham and cheese though. Slightly melted cheese.

4

God today was stressful. Trying to train someone what you know while also doing the same work, like I don't know if it's the people pleaser or ADHD but I pick up things super quickly, so why can't others????

So glad it's Friday tbh. Physio right now and then paying for new glasses tomorrow

Edit: physio is done cost me $55, but the physio i had was cool, very chatty. My usual physio is on maternity leave, so it was weird trying to describe what I needed

10

Timesheet time!
Now, what on earth have I done this week?
I know what I did Monday, but the rest of the week has been a bit of a blur.

9
aussie.zone

I am in trouble. Today Bill Cat has kangaroo in gravy, a piece of roast chicken, chicken crunchies and kangaroo crunchies and he is yelling at me because he's starving. Also his bathroom isn't perfectly clean and his blanket isn't in his favourite place.

9
aussie.zone

Cute cat pics is the reason I’m on reddit. Especially the Pallas cats

2

I used to be the opposite - if I were stressed or depressed, I would go ages without eating. Now, though, I feel I have unlocked a new ability or something. I should harness this and enter some kind of eating competition.

9

Someone just jogged my memory about what an awesome song "Without You I'm Nothing" by Placebo was. That whole album was (is?) still so so good. Then I remembered they had a version with David Bowie which is even better!

9
aussie.zone

Maybe I should have taken the day off from work today.

Everything is so much harder when you're tired and in pain.

9
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

Nah, I'll just keep going, half the day is gone already and all I'm really doing is cutting up paper strips.

I keep thinking about dinner and what I'm going to do about food on the weekend.

4

Cheese is never optional wtf it's required

Christ in a cream cheese sauce 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

4

Well it's not covid according to the RAT, but I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Dizzy, muscle ache, exhausted, no appetite. What a waste of a weekend and EOFY team dinner.

9

Influenza (not referring to the cold) can be deadly. If you need to, go to the ER. Better being safe than sorry.

Look after yourself bro, make sure you drink plenty of water and have some bread (I lose my appetite when I'm sick and eating makes me nauseous, bread is generally pretty neutral and settles my tummy, anecdotally).

If you're able to, have a shower and lie in bed. Rest up, and water water water.

Sending you good vibes 💜💜💜

6

A friend of mine recently thought she had covid - turns out she'd gotten RSV! Might be worth looking into.

5

I'm used to people pointing out that I talk "funny", but a recent acquaintance I let dribble into a budding friendship won't drop it. I have the slightest feeling they are trying to bait me into revealing its all an act when it really isn't. I've politely steered the conversation away everytime but now it's getting uncomfortable and it's making me want to end any sort of thing we had building.

Maybe, I'm just extra tired and shouldn't have gone to lunch with them.

9
aussie.zone

Had to bail on catching up with a mate tonight since Im crook, which is a bummer cause hes not in town often. Feel good for doing the right thing, but would have felt better for sinking a couple of drinks! ok well maybe it wouldnt have helped the cold, but the opportunities are few and far between these days.

9

It's always rough this time of the year. Hopefully he'll be back around when it's a little warmer. Nothing like finding a nice little rooftop spot somewhere to down a few when the sun's still shining and there's warmth in the air.

4

he's trying to look intimidating but all I see is a confused ape trying to work out if he should eat the camera

She's lovely and gentle. Finally getting her head around the fact that she'll only ever have one more owner. She's a rescue, most likely from a pound on a kill list, I got her from strong hearts rescue. She had a litter and got to keep the void who also lives here. He's such a little menace but he's got two mothers who dote after him regardless.

1

So here's my recent (as of 1/2 an hour ago) head scratcher.

My brother is getting married in less than a month and I got an email yesterday from the best man (his old roomie) detailing the bucks.

Specifically stating don't let bro know. I just got a call from bro (who isn't supposed to know) saying I have to send a bunch of coin ($400) for the 2 activities that are planned.

No one is telling me any acct #s..

It's just super short notice.

Am I right to scratch my head? Or is that normal?

Is my communication radar so off?

Whats on for the weekend everyone? Tonight will be pretty chill, partner has been sick and ive had a very busy week. Tomorrow morning is yoga and meditation at the buddhist centre and then a lunch/mini golf date. Saturday night will be mead and board games with friends and Sunday will be mead maintenance stuff and some small tasks for our business planning :)

Another one under the weather - will be puttering around and lowkey sorting up the mess I made from the last big go at Operation Sort Shit, and sorting more stuff to go out when I'm well enough to venture out. Am in the mood for a bit of cooking (since it's just me eating it) and some Sims playing.

2

Half of Melbourne seems to be a bit under the weather at the moment

4

TGIF!

I can relax and have dinner soon and watch the footy and hopefully have a peaceful night of sleep.

On the way home I nearly caved to doughnuts but instead I bought a log of meat.

I wonder if im going to regret that decision.

8

Minipeelers just wanted pancakes, so I masked up and made some. That alone was enough to do me in, and I've collapsed back into bed.

The Yarra valley water guys are still working away at the hatch in the yard. They have so far extracted several gigantic bluestone rocks from the hole, I'm not sure how.

We had a dachshund (mix with a jackrussle) when I was growing up - was a brilliant dog. They're super companionable and become protective of their own. They have a lot of positive traits for such a small doggo :)

There's a massive 'secret warehouse' partay tomorrow. 4 (!) very serious sound systems.. but it's word of mouth and I haven't spoken to my raver buddies since 2020.

Ohhh I think I've seen a flyer for this at my friend's place (also a 40s raver, I'm sure you two probably have mutual friends) kinda cool this stuff still happens.

1

The funny thing is that the people who build these rigs and throw these partays are probably in their 40/50s+. It's extreme dedication. This is one (1!) of the rigs.

The police will break this up for sure unless it's somewhere pretty remote.

7

I feel I missed a trick by never attending a secret warehouse rave. Granted a good portion of my youth was spent in the country, so I'd have to steal myself away to Melbourne when I could, which meant drinking in pubs and what not. A few clubs... but yeah, were I younger and not so concerned about getting enough sleep, I'd definitely want to learn the secret handshake to get in :)

No, do enlighten me hahah

The most we ever did go to various people's properties and have massive bonfires. Melted my blundstones one night before I fell asleep too close to the fire and woke up wonder why my foot felt so hot.

2

Apparently, it’s fucking-in-tents. Used to love a bonfire in a paddock back in the day.

2

No this one is called 'Breach the peace'. It's sound system culture so dub, reggae dnb etc.

It isn't a ticketed event just a 10 buck donation on the night which goes towards peace in west papua.

1

Cool. So someone I bailed out of a sticky situation financially after they had a shit breakup and breakdown has shown their true colours tonight. I've blocked her pretty much everywhere, because she's a bit of a terf it turns out. "Trans women aren't women, they don't any have ovaries." blah blah. But she still owes me 500$. I asked a mutual friend to ask her to contact me. Both he and I spent weeks and weeks in 2021 coaching her back from a terrible breakup. He also had a lot of trouble getting money back from her. Now she's saying I'm poison. Sometimes it costs a lot of money to rid yourself of the parasites in life. The worst thing is she'll be badmouthing me now to any other old friends we have in common and possibly outing to me to people I have nothing to do with for very good reasons.

Should I take her to small claims court?

8

Stressed spelled backwards is Desserts. How have I never realised this?

8

Okay so once in a while I reckon we could do with some local content.

What is your favourite suburban Melbourne road to drive down (at legal or typically expected speed limits) and go WHEEEEEE?

I get my kicks from Reynolds Road Templestowe. Up and down and not much traffic for the size of the road... wheeeeeeeeeee

8

digging out greenhouse footings - the slope means that a 200mm high sleeper would be buried until its top is almost flush on one end and pretty much sitting at ground level on the other across a 2m spam. Worth AG piping? The ponders. the internal square the sleepers border is gonna be filled with high drainage material anyway, and the pretty much ground level low area means it can just piss out the bottom....

8

Bonza day so far. Was able to find everything on my shopping list. Never waited more than 30 seconds for a bus or tram. The Italian bread wasn't sold out of my fave bread. Also found a sweet Museum print in a 1950s vintage bakelite frame, perfect condition, matches the baroque furniture and it's a pic I like.

7

Yay I managed to do some exercises today! Dragged myself through the routine but feel a bit better for doing it. Almost makes up for the awful Chinese I had last night .

Tradie types crawling all over the backyard this morning.. there's a drain blockage the next street over and they need to access the easement in our backyard to pump it out or something. I knew there's a giant square concrete thing in one corner of the backyard and a whole area up that side of the house that's never allowed to be built on, but I didn't know about the giant square concrete access cover thing near the lemon tree that was covered over with dirt😳

7

One of the things I really don't like about being work at home is that I feel guilty when I get sick and take time off.

6

Not excited for my physio appointment today but hopefully I can get some better workouts for my back and leg.

I have to uber to the physio from work because there's no like public transport nearby, and it's a minute trip but I can't walk because of my back and leg. It's frustrating.

After carefully reading the reviews (2) for my question I went down to Moles and purchased a Decor refillable oil spray bottle for $9.45 on the spesh.

6

After an epic battle that has left me exhausted and somewhat bloodied I declare victory in my personal War of the Roses. I have had a few climbing roses that have teamed up with the kikuyu to grow up through some established bushes and trees, making it extremely difficult to get to them to pull them out. The roses are extra thorny and catch on everything, and the kikuyu works like anchoring ropes tangling everything in further. I have now reduced the prickly bastards to a large pile and have access to where it has been cut off so I can poison any regrowth.

Argh. After the very first wash the Sherpa fleece of this new blanket has matted into clumps. That was from a quick wash in cold water on the lowest spin. (Front loader. Minimum detergent. One rinse.)

Don’t tell me I needed to use wool wash and the handwash/wool wash cycle? On an Anko blanket?

When it air dries I can try to fix it up with the cat’s slicker brush. But that would be quite a job

Is there a blog/social media page type thing for alternative sports/activities in Melbourne? Where they might review the sport, what's involved and the culture etc. Seems like there are a lot on offer in Melbourne, but no out there trying them all and documenting it(?) Thinking things like axe throwing, Trugo, larping, bike polo, roller derby and so on.

5

Kinda story kinda question; mostly rambling:

My Opa (dad's dad) is from Germany; Eschborn, near Frankfurt), he moved to Australia when he was 19 and worked on the Nullabor Plains railway tracks. He met Nan, got citizenship here after Nan and him tried to live in Germany. Nan said she disliked it because she had to dry the clothes inside as it was too cold in Winter to hang them out haha.

Anyway, Opa, being born and raised in Germany, would use German sayings and idioms around his kids and us grandkids, especially when we were children. If we were all over the place, running around being menaces, he'd whistle one super fkn loud whistle and we'd all stop dead. He still does it when he wants our attention to take a photo haha! He also would herd us around saying "raus raus!" and it's so ingrained in me that I say it to the cat when it gets under my feet lol. I also say "danke schön" a lot IRL instead of "thank you"; it just sounds nicer to me heh.

So, I was wondering, are there any sayings you say often that are from another language? Like curses or exclamations? I'm tipsy and curious 😅

Watching a British actor, director, or writers filmography inevitably means watching some pretty low budget period pieces. Tonight's offering as my Keeley Hawes education comes to an end is Under The Greenwood Tree (an adaptation of Thomas Hardys' novel of the same name), a production that had a dream and a penny they found on the ground to pay for it all.

They're a bit of a hassle to refill. I use it with the air fryer. The first time, I just plopped oil into it and the oil went bad - mold ir similar.

I now bake the bottle in the oven like I'm going to make jam before filling it in as sterile a way as possible. Once done though, it does last a while, maybe 6 months.

I bought the spray thingy at one of House's monthly closing down sales. Or maybe it was a stocktake sale? I dunno what the excuse was, but definitely a sale. It was somewhere between $10 and $15.

because i want to go to the post office. I also want sushi and chicken wings. And someone will be here in the afternoon. I do not want to be found nude in bed.

What are you waiting for then? Get up and go and get those chicken wings. You earned them.

Though it pains me to say it, cooking it in the microwave will leave you with stuffed calamari

I was gonna say cook it long and slow and then you've got a stuffed calamari. Great minds and all. 👉

Whatever I had last night, I still have. >.<
Did a dash out for my meds and supplies but completely forgot I was supposed to upload the latest med cert and call to have it tagged until StudSpud mentioned it. Lines are already full - will try again a couple of times but if all else fails I'll call them at opening time Monday and put it in the calendar so I don't forget.
Meanwhile, the errands are done, the weather is nice, the cats love their new foods, and I can relax.

A little sore throat yesterday, mostly full sinuses with the consequent zombie feel.
I see lots of spicy food in my future.

Is this too casual/bright/cold for a dinner/drinks event in a rooftop restaurant on a Friday night?

I can't speak for fashion it's a great dress but we're still in winter I'd bring a jacket / jumper too it's gonna be 10c (I don't anyone on the DT to freeze)

8

I definitely will bring a jacket and possibly a cardigan. Definitely not keen to freeze!

4

What kind of event? What dress code?

 • If it’s “casual”, that’s fine
 • If it’s “smart casual”, it’s borderline, but may be OK depending on the crowd
 • If it’s “semi formal” or “cocktail”, it’s not appropriate
 • On the other hand, if it’s a jazz restaurant, that’s absolutely perfect

Definitely not too bright.

It's a Facebook meet up page celebrating hitting a certain number of members. Eg: Name 6000 members party

Anyone know any kids/pre-teen books/graphic novels with a female skater protagonist?

I'm starting a new puzzle. It looks moderately difficult.

Just crawled into bed - tidying up has gone by the wayside, as has any thought of phoning Cennalink.
Still, I did manage a food and meds run as well as a load of washing (on the line as we speak) so all in all I haven't done too badly.

!Could someone tell me whether this comment works as a spoiler? My app updated, but the syntax seems different!<

Did that work?

Edit - it displays like this in my app....hmmmm

I guess the spoiler handler may not be implemented correctly in your app.

Opening tag looks fine, but closing tag is an html character code for the closing angle bracket

>!Could someone tell me whether this comment works as a spoiler? My app updated, but the syntax and different!<

No, it’s an indented comment with an exclamation mark at the beginning and ! < at the end

The indentation line is green

There's a new NMS update. I've always thought the music in the reveals was brilliant. And it still is. Great game, much chill.

Well I don't know what I expected from the final episode of And Just Like That but I'm glad I didn't renew my Binge subscription for it...
