I had finally found a workaround to get Star Wars: Rebellion working perfectly. And not even a day later Alistair Leslie-Hughes had posted some patches to fix the bug correctly.
So don't despair about your decades old bugs. With the right conditions it can and will be fixed.

Wait wait Wait, does it mean that multi-player now works perfectly?
Can I connect to another host via tcp only using wine?
I guess "perfectly" was the wrong word to use. This should just fix the bug with the game crashing for fleet battles. I never played this game in multiplayer.
What a shame, I have a vm just to play multi-player with this game.
