You forgot the next step. After losing their farm to trumps policies they blame democrats for it. You literally can’t make this shit up.

But before the last step, yo boy DJ Vance’s investment group will buy up the ‘distressed’ farm land for profit.

89

One of Peter Thiels folks will, JD hardly knows which end of the couch to stick it in.

16

It takes a good and self reflecting person to admit they were wrong. Somehow doubling down on being a complete fucking idiot is a merit to these people, perhaps destroying the education system has done its trick

17

after the large corporate farms: tyson, perdue, foster,,,etc graciously allows them to work on the farms they now own, they blame the dems after that.

lemmy.world

You used almost slave labour in the form of migrants workers, and paid them in government money so you could continue to be a farmer and not have to sell up to some multinational agri-corp.

But then you voted for trump because other people said foreigners were taking your job, and because your a fucking gormless mouth breather.

If people had just kept their mouth quiet, stuck their nose up and voted blue, they could still to this day happily be exploiting poor foreigners in slave like conditions. Trump has ruined America!

The USA has always been a horrid country but to act like neoliberal Democrats are the same as the warmongering fascists that make up the Republican party is pretty fucking stupid.

The American population could have voted in Harris and then pushed for change but instead voted in a party that is repeatedly pushing for the invasion of Canada, Greenland/Denmark and Panama while also ACTIVELY bombing Venezuelan fishing boats in an attempt to instigate a perpetual war.

Fuck off with the whataboutism

27

they dint want a women, especially a POC one in power. besides from supporting Israel, its only her sex that bothered male voters, when pressed, they give the excuse of "not liking her, or dont know her policies,,,etc" they can say they hate women, but are too afraid to say it out loud.

3

Those neolibs aren’t without fault though. Abstainers and protest voters got us where we are today.

3

They're not the one doing whataboutism. The topic of discussion was the impacts of farming and the use of migrant labor. "Whataboutism" is leveraging an off-topic criticism to distract from something that disproves your belief. As an example, imagine someone who was both unable to defend the exploitive labor practices Harris advocates for, so they suddenly pivot to talking about something wildly unrelated like military policy.

3

But the Democrats want to tie government funding to responsible environmental practices like reducing nitrogen fertilizer runoff and manure leaks, and they might mandate slightly less inhumane conditions for animals in feed lots. The horror! /s

21

the farm owners are whining, they have to do REAL FARM WORK, that the hardworking migrants are doing.

A coworker was just complaining to me about "Biden's Bullshit" for the reason his utility bill is massive. He lives in Florida. I used to live in Florida and now Oregon. Oregon has regulations because it's not a shit hole state.

49
lemmy.today

do they have ai datacenters there, i wouldnt be surprised if the electric bill is higher too. Florida is going under water, plus so much invasive species there, because of illicit exotic pet/plant trade.

9
lemmy.world

About 20 years ago, I wrote a mobile app for a company that surveys power lines all over the rural South and cuts away trees and vegetation that threatens the lines. In most places, the landowners are compensated for any trees that have to be cut down, with a variable scale that pays more the rarer the tree is. This has created a cottage industry where landowners plant all sorts of exotic shit directly under the power lines as a guaranteed cash crop. It's certainly an under-appreciated source of invasive species.

15

Part of the reason why some farmers voted for trump (not the majority but some) was that american workers would consider farm jobs beneath them, and both americans and undocumented workers could always transfer to other jobs / farms if the conditions were unfavorable. Instead, they want to drive workers towards H2A visa to create modern slavery where workers have their pasports taken, are beaten and their families threatened by American companies

Trump rolled back protections for these workers earlier this year

47

they just want to Pay them less, and no benefits. so they can reap in all the profits. plus its also harder to exploit a citizen, because they will start reporting the farm owners for unfavaroable conditions, or bring the press(news) on them, plus they would ask for benefits and a higher wage, which they deserve. migrant workers arnt going to do this.

also the fact that other jobs pay better, and its not brutal on the body. even places like walmart, target,or some warehouse, or grocery store workers have better pay and not working brutal hours/physicial labor.

Straight up most republicans/conservatives, especially the older set, as a rule do not change their minds or opinions about things nor do they take new or corrected information into account. Whatever the first knowledge they acquire on any subject is the truth and always will be the truth.

Oh so they actually took in new data and adjusted their beliefs?

Amazing. My parents seem immune to reason.

I've shifted to just trying to convince them to note vote at all. Reminding them that they don't need to vote, just because they don't want to vote D.

I'm so glad I didn't see the word Bitch that would have ruined my day and made me less likely to buy Coca-Cola™

You fucking need some goddamn cursing in your motherfucking life to, what, feel the metaphorical stretch of your sleazy putrid asshole and confirm you’re a fucking adult with no fucks to give like a bitch? Fuck that bullshit grandma, all my homies say frig and dang.

But THE ILLEGALS!!!

I'm surrounded by MAGA Idiots and farmers and part of me can only laugh at them while the other part of me is sad Vance will win by scooping up their farms on acretraders.

Those family farmers are all millionaires. They want those tax cut plus the socialist policies that made them rich. They wanted to screw everyone over while they got richer.

17

The media always tries to push the narrative about “family farms” hurting without pointing out that it’s almost exclusively wealthy people that always vote GOP that expect both parties to give them handouts no matter what.

2

I can no longer feel any sympathy, I just enjoy seeing them suffer and die. They would have thought the same for me.

Natural selection babyyyy

And when they get hooked on opioids as a coping mechanism to escape their newly entrenched poverty, which leads to a vicious cycle of criminal record and repeated arrests?

Guess who'll have voting restrictions.

14

Seems like the USA is on the same slope as the URSS were ...

In an evolutionary perspective.

2

Government specifically went after weed and later crack because more black people used them. IMO they will always do this shit and then congratulate themselves for it because "what if a black person owned a farm or could go to a hospital"

2

opiods are kinda expensive, but METH you can make on your own. i heard people try to wean off using imodium or kratom.

Voting again and again for the same people that are destroying your life isn't best described as "selfish".

7

You mistake me. I wasn't referring to conservative people, I was referring to conservatism as a meme in the Dawkins sense of the term.

4

they vote for the same thing, because they are hoping to get rescued everytime they get screwed over, the gop does this to test the waters, so eventually they dont bail people out. this how the farmers think.

2

A few scrolls above I read a post how during the ‘24 elections 74% of folks in a town in Nebraska voted for trump and closed down their local hospital, wow..

8

Is this a real person? Or is this "Nebraska broke 60/40 for Trump in 2020 and 60/40 for Trump in 2024, nothing has changed".

Year | GOP | Dem

2020 | 556,846 | 374,583

2024 | 564,816 | 369,995

I am willing to gamble on the difference being entirely old people dying / new people registering to vote.

Nevermind the fact that the state is being gobbled up by investment funds. So the lonely Berkshire Hathaway Investor out in Omaha who actually did vote for Biden in 2020 and Trump in 2024 is getting exactly what they asked for - bailouts when the stock market is in crisis and easy money for investors when farmland is most profitable.

Y'all are inventing a guy who doesn't exist so you can feel smug at them and ignoring the bulk of the state, whose politics you have neither the inclination or the education to grasp.

Listen, Liberal! and you might find out What's the Matter With Kansas Nebraska

6

It doesn't say or suggest that the person voted for Biden in 2020.

23

According to Frank, "abortion is never outlawed, school prayer never returns, the culture industry is never forced to clean up its act."

That might have seemed true in 2004 when "What's the matter" was published, but even then the Republicans were laying the groundwork with judiciary appointments and institutional support to develop young future conservative judges.

5

Am I missing something? How does showing the vote tallies support anything you are saying? Nearly 2x people voted for Trump than Biden.

2
lemmy.ca

I guess, at the end of the day, there is always hunting and gathering. We are moving forward into the future at light speed!

4
feddit.org

It's not crazy. Voting should be decided by what is best for the country. Not being bribed by some government program is a good thing.

However, I don't believe that that is the thought process of this hypothetical Nebraskan farmer.

3

A country beeing able to produce its own food is a good thing even if said food is not viable on a global market because of cheaper imports. What happens if there is a shipping crisis like with a pandemic? Does everybody just starve because no food is brought in from other countries? Subsidies can be very useful, but just subsidizing corn and soy for export is not one of these cases.
