you're an optimist. i think it's more likely that in 10 years the US will be indistinguishable from russia.
Russia is the way it is because of a peculiar trait of the Russian people: they always seem to passively accept whatever terrible ruler is in charge. Be it the Tsar, the Bolsheviks or Putin, they've been in servitude literally for centuries.
America if very different: it was actively and virulently pro-freedom-everything - at least on paper - and it's now actively and virulently wallowing in fascism. And it's going to quickly evolve into something much hotter and much nastier than the Russians' placid acceptance of their fate. Just like the German in the 30's.
