my guess, if white bishop takes knight, you are either down 3 points or ruin your kings defenses by taking back with the pawn. White would stay even on material but weaken your position. By moving the knight you allow the queen to defend the other knight while also developing the knight

Another update from another source, I would be doubling my pawns as well by moving my Queen instead of my Knight.

I'm only 1100 rated, and haven't checked with an engine.

My guess is that after 10. .. qd7, 11. Bxf7 gxf7 makes the king too vulnerable. If you had played 10. ... ng6, then you could take with the queen and 11. Bxf7 isn't as strong. Your pawns can stay unstacked and play can continue
