Coasters are also great. My girlfriend made an ungodly number of cat butt coasters (you'll see if you Google it) from cotton and they were a huge hit. I still use mine on my nightstand every single night.

I'm commenting so late, my apologies for only recently finding this community, but mortar board (aka graduation cap) covers are a great way to gift doilies!

Sew them together into string produce bags? Like for when you buy fruit and veg at the market.
